About New York...

I'm in the middle of a story and realized that I don't even know the basics. (Bad fan!) I hope someone can help. I'd like to know June's address and the Burkes' address (if that's even said in the show) or if it's not said maybe their area. How much time would it take for someone to walk from one to the other? Would it be faster by public tranport ( Read more... )

type: local knowledge, type: general question

Hey!

I think you can Google for the addresses, but June's house is in Riverside, which is on the Upper West side of Manhattan, facing NJ (and not the Chrysler Building, LOL), and the Burkes live in Brooklyn. I'm sure you could walk it, but I'm not sure you'd want to - it'd be a few miles (like 10?). You could probably walk from the Burkes' to the FBI office, though, which is downtown.

For hospitals, there are MANY. The two I favor are Lenox Hill (uptown and convenient for June's house) or Bellevue (which is downtown, and close to the office). Both have an emergency room (not all hospitals in NY do) and Bellevue is also a Level 1 trauma center, so they work for H/C stories.

But seriously, there are many hospitals in NYC - just google hospitals in manhattan and you'll find a lot - look on Google maps, and you'll see where they all are, and can choose accordingly.

Good luck!

Actually, that was the problem too much information! Google maps was my first instinct, but I didn't even know where to start. I figured, let's ask, maybe someone will answer, otherwise I'll just have to work around it or stay vague, which I hate to do.

Thank you very much for your help!

In 'Shoot the Moon', the address for the Burkes is 'Warren Street' (no number given). The house we see is, I think, actually on DeKalb Street, which fans used prior to this episode airing as their address. They live in Brooklyn ( ... )

Wow! Thank you so much! I went to Google maps, but without a specific adress it was hard to come up with something conclusive. I can now go back and search for what I need.

Without revealing too much of my plot, it's not Neal, but Mozzie. It's complicated, but which story isn't?! In any case, it didn't even occur to me that Mozzie owned a car, yet I've seen him drive the ambulance in 3.16, but I guess head canon trumps real one sometimes. ;)

You might be able to work out his radius from Riverside on Google Maps, see if there's a hospital noted within it.
I'll do that. Now that I have the general location, it'll be easier.

Thank you very much for your help. :)

I think Mozzie having or not having a car in New York is up for debate as canon isn't very clear on it. So you can have it either way and no one is going to say much. (He has a car on Cape Verde, then the taxi and, as you say, we see him drive an ambulance. I have a vague feeling another car is mentioned in passing in an episode (poss S1 or S2), but can't be certain - I may be mixing it up with fanfic!!)

Anyway, even if he owns a car, he might keep it away from the Burke's house for 'government conspiracy/paranoia' reasons!! I think you're safe on that!!

Glad I could help on the addresses.

Whether he has one or not isn't relevant for what I have in mind, he won't have time to go and get it since the big event occurs a few streets from the Burke's house.

I've already said too much!

Just for the record, you say 87 riverside and someone else said 78. So which is it? For the sake of clarity. Thanks ;)

On my phone so can't supply links. No one would walk from that part of Manhattan to that part of Brooklyn. Most people (who aren't Neal--or Peter) would take the subway. Neal would take a taxi and Peter would drive.

Oh boy! You're right it's confusing. I suppose that fiction is meant to better reality, and anyone would love to have Neal's view out of their window. Using real life adress numbers would mean trouble for the real inhabitants, so it stands to reason no one would use an actual RL address and have to suffer the consequences.

Seems like these days show runners don't care about continuity. I'll find a way to work around it. It's not crucial information in my fic, thankfully, but I'm always worried of plot holes and prefer to secure everything just in case; besides, it might come in handy for future stories. :)

Thank you very much. I've learned something today!

Hey! the address I found for June's mansion is actually 351 Riverside Drive, near West 107th Street. Here is a link from Zillow, a really reputable site: http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/351-Riverside-Dr-New-York-NY-10025/2132738148_zpid/

You can see pics of the house and its' interior. The house is worth about $11,593,829.

wikipedia link. Did you know that this house is a NYC landmark? Now as you said, you may not want to use the real house. But considering its' popularity, I figured that it would be fine :)

Thanks! I never imagined so many people would look for information to answer my questions!

I just needed the address to look up distances on Google maps. To think this might just be a line in the whole fic! The lengths we go to do research. :)

I had no idea it was a landmark. I can see why. It's a lovely piece of architecture that needs to be preserved. I love that it's even mentioned in the wiki page that the house served in the show.

Thanks for you help! Much appreciated. ;)
