This National Poetry Month is like, the blockbuster movie version of the Writers' Block Poetry Night. Every Wednesday in April at Kafe Kerouac (2250 N. High St.) we will celebrate poetry in inimitable WB style!
Each week we'll have a special show that will knock the English right out of your head:
April 1 - The Jazz Slam
Poetry + Jazz = Cool, baby.
Poets can sign up to slam with our house band this evening: the illustrious Stan Smith on guitar and drum phenom Mark Lomax III. Both of these cats could do a show all by themselves. Together? It's nitro, son! Poets in open mic should feel free to ask for their accompaniment as well.
April 8 - Poetry Survivor!
6 poets enter, but only one can be the ultimate survivor!
Just like the TV show, poets get voted off until only one remains.
Will feature some awesome poets playing dirty!
April 15 - The Bad Poetry Slam
The WORST poet wins!
Anyone can sign up. Work must be original (and wretched)!
Probably our most hilarious show ever.
April 22 - The Decathlon Slam
Two teams of poets go five rounds, including 3-minute poetry rounds, a group piece round and the ever-famous eating contest!
This show is complete and utter mayhem, and anyone (up to 10 poets...or not) can sign up, kickball style.
April 29 - The National Team Qualifying Slam
The regular monthly slam! Poets attempt to gain points to enter the Grand Slam to make the team that gets to go to Florida in August!
As always, every week still has open mic.
Come on out to Kafe Kerouac and have poetry come alive for you!
