I went to the game last night and I was disappointed. I thought they did good in the first half, but they seriously have a problem with scoring.

People need to stop bashing Frings. He kept the team together. After he left everything fell apart.

Aaron Hunt was awful. Everyone around me kept saying he should get pulled out of the game by Schaaf. He was invisible. INVISIBLE.

I hope they get their crap together soon. Otherwise dark weeks lay ahead of us. :(

Wow. Were u in Ostkurve as well??? We might have met ;)
Did you also think the atmosphere was awful - it wans't even sold out where I stood -- little chants and not enough support in general, I mean compared to BuLi matches. Too bad the CL prices are so high and the Ultra fans decided to boycott. I really missed them and Twente managed to have a mighty coir going. Sigh. Double sigh.

Btw, did you notice how Frings tried to animate the crowd by raising his hands when he got sent off and went into the tunnel? That was such a sad thing to behold. The folks around us could barely sing along the basic chants. Also some of them left early after Frings got off. I hate those "fans" -- as for screaming at Hunt. It does not make it better for him and I generally don't like such a behaviour. I do support my team as long as they play - and reserve the right for critcism for later. You probably feel the same...
What an awful nite that was. They so blew all their hard earned chances. Damn.

No, I wasn't in Ostkurve. ;)

Yeah, the atmosphere... I've only been to three games this season, but I thought the atmosphere vs Twente was the worst. :( And it doesn't help that the away fans have their spot right underneath the roof while the Ostkurve doesn't have a roof at all atm. :/

Yes, I saw that. Frings has always been and will forever be one of the players who gives everything he possibly can. Even pushing the fans after being red-carded.

I don't like the screaming as well, but in all honesty... I wished Thomas Schaaf would be screaming at the players down there (constructive yelling of course), because some players seem to be confused/disorientated atm for some reason.

I wonder what's going on with hunt though, he had a few good games and now he's just... a shadow of those days. :(

At least they can concentrate on the BuLi now. ;)

[insert me whining and crying and complaining]

On a more rational level: I really agree with what you said about the experimental, unusual aspect of the match. For a long time, it was just really fun to watch (except for the constant "WTF how did they manage NOT to score now?"), and I actually thought (hoped?) for a long time that they just HAD to score/win sooner or later. But then again, I also kept thinking that in the first half of the Bayern match. And people who bash Frings (it just seems to be very en vogue right now) should just STFU. My humble and certainly not very informed (not to mention biased) opinion is that he really didn't do that badly for someone who was, well, not playing on his usual position. Was he supposed to turn into the world's best centre back over night?

Stupid question to finish my stupid comment: I think I have a vague idea of what you mean, but what exactly is a sweeper?

*goes and feels stupid in a corner* *stupid and sad*

Thing is you could criticize Frings slowness. There's no denying that. When bashing Frings, most commentators forgot to mention the lack of options for TS - and considering this, we did well. I mean, do they want Silvestre back or Hunt/Bargfrede as CB. Their pace was needed in midfield. And the trick with Wesley jumping in wherever needed though risky looking did work. And of course Frings will have problems with keeping the position. It is an intricate thing to keep the line of four steady. And sure he was going to loose some battles. But we gained more pressure on the wings by that maneuver and got more offense on the pitch ( ... )

Yeah, I'm with you there, and I understand when people criticise him for not being fast enough. I've just read a bit too much Frings bashing lately. I'm generally annoyed when people jump on a big "let's all bash player X because he's not as epic as last season/five years ago/in my wet football dream about him"-bandwagon, and it seriously pisses me off when I actually like the player. ;) I'm also annoyed by all the recent Ballack hate, and I don't even particularly like that guy.

Ah, okay, thanks for clearing that up. Libero makes more sense to me. I'm not very good at footie English - admittedly that's rather pathetic considering that I'm studying English. Need to learn some vocabulary here. ;) But since I already started asking stupid questions - why exactly is it considered old-fashioned/not done anymore?
