So what that riddle is a clue as to what will happen to us? If we could figure it out it would give us a chance to prepare for it. I don't really understand how they work though.

That seems to be the common belief. Unfortunately, they're too vague to be called hints, so it just makes it all the more infuriating when one pops up.
