Gaia may be just a little protective of the Winchesters. Just a little bit.

She shouldn't be, and she knew that, but she just couldn't stop herself a lot of time. They were an important family in the grand scheme of things. So when Ben decided to ask her a question, she felt it was only fair that she actually give him an answer.

Even if it might not be one he wanted to hear.

"You didn't do anything wrong, Ben. I promise."

Ben recognized that voice. It had been awhile since he had heard it, but he looked up just the same, turning to face Gaia.

"Then why does it feel like that I can never have anything for myself?"

That was a complicated answer. She sighed heavily, before reaching for his hand and letting it slip into hers. "I think what you have depends on how you look at it, Ben. There's a lot of ... nuances."

There was a beat as she tried to put it into better words. "People make choices. But certain choices don't change how they feel about that person."

He looked at their hands. Not so long ago, he would have pulled his hand from hers, not wanting her pity. But he was just tired at this point. Tired of being angry.

"I know it doesn't. But it doesn't mean that it doesn't hurt."
