In Which There is Love, Tears, and Soul Food

Ben was still getting used to the real world, even though it was over a week now since he escaped from the djinn's world. He was getting better at it, but sometimes he still slipped and realized it and withdrew from the rest of the room until someone pulled him back. Every day was better, but he knew it was going to happen, and when it did he ( Read more... )

Anna gave him a bit of a grin as she shifted onto her stomach, sliding her arms around his neck and moving in closer. "They already know this room is mine, no reason to put my name on it. But if it would make you feel better ... "

She had to say, she was craving this kind of time alone with Ben. She needed a little reassurance that he hadn't completely changed over his time away from her. That the djinn hadn't effected him as much as she feared he did. That he still wanted her the way she was here as oppose to the way she was there. And so far, things seemed to be so far so good.

"Well, except for the time I was here when you were in the coma downstairs, I don't think I've slept anywhere else. And I don't really plan on it either," he added with a chuckle, looking down at her and smiling.

He was so careful with Anna. He knew the seperation between the dream Anna and the real one - 20 years of marriage and 2 kids helped with that - and he held onto her reminding him that they can have their own happiness together. What they could make now would be even better, since he could see how goood it could be. He would make it better. And he had a chance to love her all over again through those steps. In a way, he saw that as a tiny miracle.

But in his dreams, he still remembered the babies and the family. He kept that still in his heart, and hoped that this path they were on now would one day lead a similar road.

"And while I love my family, I'm glad they are letting us have a few days on our own before we drive up for the wedding."

"Me too," she nodded, settling in closer and closing her eyes. "I've missed being alone with you."

"Me too." He kissed the top of her head. "We've gotten too spoiled being together all the time. It's hard being without you when I'm at school. Not looking forward to that part of going back..."
