It's the top of the sixth inning, and the Enigmas again take the field.

Booth stops swinging the bat (what? He's warming up!) and steps up to the plate for his at-bat.

He grins at Grace, looking (if not quite feeling) like he's ready for what she's got to dish out. He's noticed she doesn't have a method so much. It's more like she's throwing the pitches she feels like throwing. Doesn't mean she can't take a batter's measure, just that she's hard to pin down.

Grace grins back.

"Hey there, Special Agent," she calls, tone and gaze undeniably flirtatious. "Your hitting as good as your cop sense?"

Unpredictable as she is, Grace doesn't know what she's throwing until the ball has left her hand. It's fair, but lacking some of the power of her earlier efforts; her arm is getting tired.

"Nah, I'd be in the majors if it were," Booth says, flirting right back. "I always was better at shooting things than hitting them."

It's a good pitch, although not especially fast. Booth swings just a hair too early and misses. He swears as the ball whizzes past.

"See what I mean?"

The teams trade roles again, as the Enigmas head back to their bench and the Paradoxes take their places on the diamond.

Taking a pointer from her first time facing the pitcher's mound, X shifts her stance a little closer to the plate.

She lets one pitch go by, then a second. Only one of them is fair.

On the third she swings, the crack as ball meets bat clearly audible.

It's a line drive out into left field, and X lets go of the bat and starts running.

X is running as hard as she can to reach second base, but it looks like there is a good chance Raph's throw will reach it before her.

Which is why X puts on another fraction of speed, dropping into a slide at the last second in hopes she'll touch base before the ball is caught.

It works when the professionals do it. Sometimes.
