If you really want to see something amazing, and really want to feel some real history, both religious and not, I suggest Eastern Europe - places like Prague, Budapest, Vienna, Krakow, Warsaw, Helsinki, etc.
There's so much history there.
If you didn't want to venture that far away, there's always Armenia - its not that far away, and it is a Christian nation. Its beautiful in architecture, music, food, political history, landscape and even a lot of touristy stuff. The Armenian people are quite friendly as well. Its a beautiful place :)

Well, I hear Japan can be interesting, if a bit expensive. I think you're really severely limiting yourself in where you will go, but it's YOUR vacation and you have to feel excited about going, so who am I to say?

I was looking at Freighter cruise vacations online. Takes too long and too expensive for me at this point, but it looks like something I'd LOVE to do in retirement!
