Art: In Production
Here is my art for reccea's spn_j2_bigbang fic In Production, which of course I think you all should read. :D I stressed a bit about making it come together, but I think it looks all right. I do want to apologize for the file sizes to people on slower connections--I couldn't make them any smaller and still retain quality resolution. Sorry!

This fic is very rooted in place--Paris, where Jared runs after the divorce, and LA, where he finally moves on--so the skylines were an obvious choice. I wanted the rings because that's such a prominent image in this fic, right from the start with the anecdote about Jared's missing ring, and because wedding rings invoke a lot of symbolism just on their own. Also, I like the idea of these standing for both Jared and Sandy's rings and the ones Jared and Jensen eventually exchange in this verse's future. :P
This one was the kind of project that involved a lot of experimentation and happy accidents--I didn't, for example, originally intend to make the rings such a prominent feature--and I'm particularly pleased because I think it came out better than my original vision.

My immediate idea after reading for the first time was to put J2 on the cover of a magazine. One of the themes of this fic is the celebrity "lifestyle" and the gossip rags as a part of that, and given the way the story progresses and ends up, it seemed fitting to both out them to the public and show them "arriving" as stars, so to speak. In my head, this is published somewhere vaguely around the end of the story. *handwave* You'll notice I conveniently ignored putting any kind of date on it. :P
I almost never read celebrity tabloids, or, you know, tabloids in general, so this involved a lot of research online (read: looking at sample covers). Once I picked a layout I liked, this was a lot of imitation: laying out guidelines to get the measurements right; picking suitable colors and photos; even recreating the logo, since I couldn't find a decent one online. For the record? There are a LOT of layers involved in magazine covers. :P I also did some subtle graying of Jared's hair and Jensen's hair and beard, as well as aging up Dakota so she looked old enough to be in rehab, ha. I'm pretty happy with how this one came out, too, and I'm glad I made the last minute changes I did because it's much better than it was, um, a few hours ago.
Trufax: The number on the barcode (0002267627) is my LJ userid, and I spent way longer than I probably should have changing it to say that. \o/
