Decorating

I am not good at decorating. I have picked awful paint colors before and I am just not talented in that area. But, now it is time to paint the house- well pay someone to at least do the 2 story front hall- and I am having to choose a color scheme. Problem 1- we have wood trim in a medium cherry sort of color which does limit the choices a bit. ( Read more... )

We used a paint in our old house called "white corn" by Behr that everyone has really loved. It looks like this:

I generally pick a color I like (yellow, blue, green) and look at the whites in that range.

I have some other paints on my Pinterest if you're....pinterested. LOL

If the color on the monitor can be trusted, which I know from experience it really can't be, the white corn looks like a slightly lighter version of the color we are considering for the foyer. We are looking at frappe from Benjamin Moore

And gray mirage for the living room and maybe the kitchen.

We have gone through all sorts of colors, grays, yellows, blues, blue-gay, even beige. I'm crossing my finger that I'll like the foyer since thatis not something easily painted over, which is why we are leaning toward a light, fairly bright, but very neutral color.

The white corn looks more yellow and bright in real life than the frappe does on my monitor. It was a very pretty color that changed throughout the day but was never too dark or too yellow.

Good luck! I know it's a gamble.

Home Depot has small cans of paint that you can use to paint a square on your wall to see how you like the color once it's actually on the wall, dry, and has had some sun exposure.

Thanks. I do have a lot of samples, the problem is there are thousands of colors and I do not trust myself to pick ones that will work in the space. My last house was a rental and was horribly decorated, so bad people mentioned it to me. And I overheard a woman this weekend complaining about someone else's decorating choices and telling a whole salon how awful the colors are. So, I am a bit nervous about it. I can't blame a landlord this time if my taste is bad!
