Guess what boys and girls

the other thing that this election CLEARLY demonstrates is just how little our votes really matter. Amongst all the tears and exclamations regarding a "nation coming together to vote (which raw numbers don't really indicate - sorry, but it's still almost an even split)" there's a glaring set of numbers that should cause all of our eyebrows to ( Read more... )

well, it's because we really live in a Republic, not a Democracy.

And we certainly can't trust Americans to actually inform themselves and make an educated decision, now can we?

BTW - What's the average life span of a Republic? 200 years or something? So it's impressive we've made it past that really.

I DO agree with the "democracy sucks but it's the best thing going" but this is just GLARINGLY silly.

yes, if we had a democracy, it would be the best thing going.

don't get me wrong, I'm mostly happy with my republic, but ask me if it's still true come March or May.

And yes, I do know it's stil better than what else is out there.

Buy me some land out west. We'll start our own brand of socialism ;-). Implement a barter system or something of the like.

Love the MockChe, by the way. Or should I say, BarChe? BamaChe? BeOoChe?

2 reasons that I know of.

1) the general population is still not fully trusted determine who should be president(I don't really agree with this one)

2) since the electorial college system is based on seats in congress, smaller states with smaller population have more of a say. So it goes back to the whole this being a union of states, not just people. I believe this is the same reason they wanted to have a senate and house within congress. Otherwise, states like Wyoming would get even less of a say in the matter.

'cause politicians want that reassurance they can control the votes in their back pocket that they line with our money?

I would sooner see states choose to partition their electoral votes.
