When Clark returned to Smallville from Metropolis, something seemed off. He couldn't exactly put his finger on it, but there was this knot somewhere inside him that told him to stay alert.

Then again, between Maxima and what she'd said about Lois, maybe he was just looking for something to distract him. Part of him regretted staying while he sent the queen back to her home planet of Almerac, but his place was here, and apparently, with Lois. Clark wasn't so sure. Maybe he was attracted to her, and maybe they had some kind of connection, but those things didn't necessarily equal a relationship. He wasn't interested.

Clark walked into the Talon, intending to unwind with a cup of coffee and some apple pie. He sat at the bar, loosening his tie a bit as he put in his order. When the barista turned to do her job, he took a glance around, just out of habit, quickly noticing the brunette with the Danish. He knew pretty much everyone in this town and he'd never seen her before.

Ruby was ready to tell him off pretty quickly, because she just wasn't in the mood, but when she looked up and actually looked at him ... well. There was something you don't see every day.

There was something about him that wasn't quite right. She couldn't quite put her finger on what it was, but she was willing to find out. She straightened, before shaking her head.

"Knock yourself out."

Clark settled into the seat in front of her. His hand lifted not even an inch before he reconsidered. A hand shake might be a little formal to use in this case. He offered his best smile instead.

"Clark Kent."

It's a cute smile, but she still wasn't entirely sure what he's doing here. She shrugged it off before taking another sip of her coffee. "Ruby."
