in regards to this msn article; i don't know whether to nod my head and say "i heard that!" or throw my hands up in disgust at the fact that people actually need these things spelled out for them.

If you are kidnapped or missing, it helps to be the right race, age, social class and gender. Otherwise, don't expect the media to cover your story ( Read more... )

white and privileged. I think social status goes pretty far. we also live in a classist society.

I'm pretty sure that most of the crap in the news is brain-dead fodder on purpose to keep people misinformed to the bigger picture. it's the biggest reason I don't watch local news.

agreed, i think it'd be absolutely ignorant to address class when talking about racial inequality. for that reason, i couldn't bear to read the bullshit people replied to that article. it's really scary/appalling that you hear so few people addressing the fact that a majority of the most poor in the u.s. are white. it makes you realize how misinformed people are.

I guess that people think that the reason people are poor is because they are part of a minority group. one of the more interesting things about this to me is that people forget that most of the caucasian are population are desendant from immigrants, just like everyone else, and as such, once faced the same discrimination. in the beginning, the elite were all british.

my mom used to like to say that she came from a long line of peasants!

I think that our generation will probably see more pronounced change in attitudes towards race, gender and orientation than any previous historically. (2008 election is going to change history) maybe classism will be the last big thing...
