Room 312 - Friday Morning

Claire was still pretty cranky when she woke up. On one hand, sure, she now had scientific proof that she and Jon were in no way related which was a very good thing. On the other hand, Sam and Dinah were apparently in love and she was angry about it on Peter's behalf

Dinah'd crashed so hard that she kind of slept-walk to the shower, slept-walk back to her room, then almost walked into the closet when she got back in. Claire was awake now, though, so she smiled and said, "Morning, roomie."

How could she act like nothing was wrong? Claire definitely did not return her smile.

"How could you?" she demanded.

Dinah blinked, and ducked behind the Chinese screen to get dressed, pulling on her underwear before looking for jeans and a sweater. "How could I what? The pizza? You can have the leftovers, if you want?"

"No, Sam," she said. "How could you both disregard Peter's memory that way? It's completely disrespectful. I thought you were my friend. I thought you were Peter's friend."

"I was Peter's friend!" Dinah yanked on a sweater, then her jeans, and came out from behind the screen, finger-combing her hair. "I can explain, seriously."

"What's to explain?" Claire asked. "Sam told me that he was in love with you and you were in love with him. He said that if Jon loved me the way you loved him, I wouldn't be upset."

Dinah flinched. Normally she would've been explaining this better, but she still felt pretty raw after waking up from two days of insanity. The nice, rational 'I was out of my mind and so was Sam' kind of evaporated from her mind in the face of Claire's disbelief and hurt. "He shouldn't have said that, it wasn't true or fair," she muttered, tight-lipped.

"No, it definitely was not fair," Claire agreed, skipping over the issue of whether it was true or not. "And it's not fair for him to forget Peter like this. I don't expect him to mourn forever, but I thought he might wait more than a month to fall in love again."

"Not fair to who? You?" Dinah said, shoulders twitching, feeling a little hurt there herself. "Look, I didn't make him fall for me, Claire. This is all a big mistake, it isn't..." She huffed a frustrated sigh, turning a slow red, thinking of Jak.

"Right, you didn't make him fall for you, but you don't seem to care that losing Peter was hard for both of us," Claire argued. "Sam's the only tie to him I have left."

And that, right there, was why Dinah didn't want to talk about this. She was embarrassed enough about what had happened, ashamed, even. But having Claire not even ask her what was going on... She put on her socks and jammed her feet into her shoes, shaking her head. "I cared. I told him-- I told him I could wait, I did," she insisted, guilt swamping her. Then she demanded, "You don't think I could have a reason? You're just assuming I'm some... widower-seducer or something?"

"What possible reason could you have?" Claire asked. "I mean, you didn't even tell me! I had to hear it from him."

That hurt too. Although it was more her own sense of not-wanting-to-deal that had Dinah grabbing her jacket and yanking open the window with her TK, then pulling herself over the ledge. "I'm outta here."

"Fine. Whatever."

Claire flopped back on her bed.

Maybe just this once she wanted to be petty, maybe she just had to defend herself, maybe... "It was a love spell. It's over now. I screwed things up with Jak and said I was marrying Sam. And next time something weird happens, it would be nice if you didn't make it about you, Claire." Dinah slammed the window shut, and started very, very carefully air-walking down to the ground.

A good long run would be great, wouldn't it.
