June hadn't given away his suits. When Neal showed back up on her doorstep she grinned with a knowing smile. They exchanged a hug and no judgement and then he'd gone to get the suits out of storage to put back in the closet. When Peter showed up, Neal was about halfway through putting everything away. Turning, Neal grinned as if he'd never left New York.
"Peter! Welcome back to the apartment with a view."
Setting down the dress shirt he'd had in hand, he turned to get the bottle of wine. And, apparently, to give his friend a hug.
He stiffened at first. Only because he hadn't been expecting the hug. It took him a second to realize what was going on. Once he did, he returned the hug with passion. He almost didn't want to let go, but he eventually did.
"Best view in the city."
He handed the bottle to Neal and slowly wandered out to the patio. Leaning against the edge, he sighed and gazed out at the city. He'd missed it up here. He'd missed everything about this apartment. But none more important than Neal.
It was kind of a stiff thing from Neal's end but he was grateful, really and truly grateful. The best emotional display he could do would have to suffice for his friend. Neal just hoped Peter understood how much this all meant to him. The anklet, he could definitely leave rather than take but he'd take it if it meant having his life back.
Peter didn't like 'Michael Stanton?' Well, Neal didn't either. He liked being Neal Caffrey. Neal Caffrey had a place with a view, thousand dollar suits, and... friends. People that cared for him. That was something he was still getting used to, but meant the world in their own way.
"This had to be at least $40.00. I'm impressed Peter."
Neal grinned as he set the bottle on the table before following the other man outside. Leaning on the stone railing, he sighed. It sounded relieved.
"Yes, well... I can't take all the credit. I got a wine recommendation from Diana." One of the few feds who liked Neal and was glad that he was back. He smiled and leaned sideways against the stone, so that he could face Neal as well.
He smiled. "New York isn't the same without you in it." And he meant it. There were lines he would cross for Neal. Boundaries he would break.Things he never even thought of doing before, he would do for Neal. Because Neal mattered that much.
"If something ever happened to you, I don't know if I could live with myself."
The anklet he would work on. In time, maybe it could come off. For now, they had to work with what they had.
