When: Set two months after Peter finds Neal.

It had been two months since he had seen Neal. Things had been progressing at a snail's pace. It had taken him a week just to get a face to face with Hughes. After waiting not so patiently, he finally had a chance to plead his case. Thankfully, he at least had a long career to back him up. Getting his job back wouldn't be a problem. He just had to endure a probationary period. Peter had no problem with that.

Neal, that was the problem. Peter felt like he had been in Hughes office for hours. Hughes liked Neal. He just didn't like him more than Kramer. Even if he hated Kramer, he too had a long career. And Peter had no proof of what Kramer had done. That didn't mean that he couldn't investigate.  The main reason things were going so slow was because he was working under the radar. Only Diana knew anything about his plan. They had started to gather some information, but he knew it wasn't enough.

So he begged Hughes one more time.

Let me bring Neal in, please. I need him. Kramer will slip up if you let me bring him back. You can override and say Neal has to stay here.

Neal ran, Peter. Again.

But he is here in New York. He has been the whole time. He didn't do any cons. He ran because he didn't want to leave. Please. He is the reason we have a high success rate. We need him.

And so, Hughes relented. And Peter got a promise and everything in writing.  Provided that Neal came in of his own accord.

When Peter got home from work, he called Neal...
