It always surprised me how few people seem to notice that their church and Jesus' church seem to have so little in common. But since I was kicked out of Sunday school at 5 for my questioning, it WOULD surpise me...

This whole unclean, sinful, Satan-fearin', gay-hatin', exorcism-lovin' American church really boggles my mind.

That's not what this was. This is the Satan-ignoring, gay-loving, liberal American church. As Christians go, our liberals are plenty liberal. It's the American gay-loving liberals who have created a historic rift in the body of the worldwide Anglican communion by having a gay bishop.

I think the difference is that in Europe you need to be pretty conservative to be religious, but in the States even the atheists have a church. We're so much more churchy than the Europeans that our churches include a lot of liberals who, in Europe, would be unchurched.

And remember, like Michelle says, it's OK to be proud of America now. We can lighten up a little.

But... lightening up is SO hard.
I hope the next 8 years will allow me to become a paragon of relaxitude.
