Did he try to pull some girl up on stage to dance with him and get dissed, and then howl a lot to recover and act like he meant to go staggering backwards, or was I imagining it?

Yeah, I can't quite make out what happened there despite having watched this like seven times. It almost looks like someone tried to pull him down into the crowd.

I'd pull him down with me. That cover was hot.

It had its moments, both bad and good. He's a LOT better at belting it out than he is at crooning it - and towards the end he started to get a little too "uh what do I do now to keep jazzing it up" with it, sorta like he was singing the anthem at a Braves game.

The moment when he first started belting it was awesome though.

He's good with "moments," basically a better performer (and (re)arranger of music) than a singer. Recently, he slid across a baby grand piano during a performance of Coldplay's "Clocks", timed perfectly to land right at the moment where he needed to resume playing. I just about did a spit-take.

That, of course, was the performance that got him voted out.

i think he will do pretty good on his own if he rides on the "fame" of being on tv, and starts working on it pretty soon before people forget who he is...he did some great covers...

and as shameful as it is...i have the biggest crush on storm large...i dig a chick that could beat the shit out of me. and she looks hot for being 37.

I'm sure if we had our way (assuming it didn't require the effort of actually voting), we could agree that one or more of the three who didn't end up in the bottom three deserved to be there more than the folks who were.

I think Storm is great and probably hasn't received enough props for the way she has survived highly questionable song selections. I couldn't believe how low-key the judges' responses were to her pulling off that Evanescence tune when it seemed like nothing in her vocal range or style.

That said, she's never going to be the lead singer for a band like Supernova except if Tommy's convinced she's worth fucking more than thrice.

Regardless of the number of times Ryan has been in the bottom three versus Storm, I can see no way to rationalize choosing her over him. Except ta-tas.

haha, i agree...i actually see her working out pretty well as the front-person for her own band. i just think she is hot. and that she has a pretty good voice. but yeah, song choice? questionable. except for Anything Anything. she rocked on that.

I think this one was my favorite overall performance. "Paint It Black" was really the defining moment for me though, because it came after his intense piano ballad of "Losing My Religion." That song could have been his swan song, and the following week he could have returned to the status quo of decent-yet-forgettable showmanship. Instead, he emerged from the pack, fake mohawk, sunglasses, black eye make-up, killer arrangement and all.

Wheee...

Judging from his comments before the Depeche Mode performance, apparently the black eye make-up freaked out the former bassist to Metallica.

Oh these aging rockstars.

I think this one was my favorite overall performance.

Also, I think my favorite parts are the cutaways (particularly at the end when they join him) to the two nimrods standing on the side of the stage realizing there's no way Ryan's going home after that song.
