My work life has been consumed by people taking it upon themselves to force me to live up to my potential, whatever that might be. So, it is to their advantage that I never live up to my potential - otherwise, I wouldn't deign to work for them.

It would certainly limit your prospects.
In many ways, I have the ideal setup: A good job with great pay that requires a high degree of technical knowledge, but very little actual work. I keep telling myself that I want to drop it all and move to DC, but I doubt I'd find a gig this slack up there.

Then there's the issue of my rising workload and the four months last year where I basically didn't even have time to think of anything outside of work.
Which makes me wonder if this job isn't evolving into... you know... well...
work.

i always stare at them blankly wondering just how they want me to answer that question.
one even went so far as to say that, were he my father, he'd make sure i was back in school finishing my degree.

then he asks me to do excel data entry.
