well, for people who keep salt water fish tanks, the lion fish is a "showcase" fish -- the centerpiece of the tank, because of its super elaborate fins and tail (it's also sometimes called a turkey fish because of the way it fans out the tail and fins when it's pissed, but I always thought calling a fish that pretty a "turkey" was a disservice).
The thing is that salt water tanks are notoriously hard to keep, and they're mad expensive, too. I've known this for years -- it's the main reason my mom always kept fresh water tanks instead of salt water ones. What I didn't know is that people who live near water (Florida, but also the islands in the Carribean) who have tried -and failed- to maintain a saltwater tank, apparently dump whatever's still alive in the tank into the ocean? (It never in a million years would have occurred to me to do such a thing, but I guess it's better than flushing Norbert the fish down the toilet or something
