Fringe: Alone in the World

I haven't even taken the time to write up my thoughts about 4.01 or 4.02 yet. (Which I loved.) And Maybe it’s my mood. Maybe it’s my expectations being too high. But last night’s Fringe disappointed me more than it didn’t.

I’m not going full-on meta here, I don’t have the energy for that right now. But here’s a few key (and a few minor) things that ( Read more... )

fringe, walter bishop, alone in the world, astrid farnsworth, olivia dunham, lincoln lee

I stopped reading pretty much at the title because I haven't seen any Fringe, so, spoilers. I was just wondering if you have any advice for getting into Fringe. I keep hearing good things about it, but I hear that the beginning of the first season isn't that great. Is there a particular place that might be good to pick it up? Or if the first season is crucial for plot reasons, is there a good standalone episode from later on I could watch just to get a feel for the show?

I don't think watching S1 is vital. It's useful to understand the characters more, but not vital. S4 right now is actually a really good place to pick up since it's a kind of reboot and they're explaining a lot of things that new viewers would need to know to catch up. Also they did a series of summary videos and those would also help you out a lot. If you like them and S4 then maybe you can go back and watch seasons 1, 2 & 3 during the winter break or when you have free time.

Here's the web series. There's 12 videos total and would take you about an hour to watch them all.

Ok, I just finished watching this week’s ep and I see your points and pretty much agree with all of them, though I wouldn’t go as far as to say that the show is disappointing me… Maybe because I have never had high expectations to begin with. Fringe is a good show, but too uneven and sometimes just plain badly written. I love the characters, some storylines and the performances but I just can’t take the writers seriously, sorry. I feel it’s too obvious they are doing the trick of making things up as they go along and I don’t trust them ( ... )

hi bb! :)

Oh, luckily the show as a whole isn't disappointing me, just that episode in particular. I always rant about what I *don't* like first, so it probably comes off horribly. There's a lot of things I really do like though, just need to write them up. XD

And hopefully it doesn't sound too much like I'm complaining about Lincoln. I love him and his alt self... so I'll take what I can get, just suppose I still get so frustrated with the show's lack of utilizing Astrid in a way that seems normal or logical. Like having her be friends with Olivia and be more involved in the cases. Lincoln could come along with both of them, it's not like having a third person around or heck even swapping which one is in the lab from one week to the next would change the dynamic all that much. And maybe I'm jumping the gun and that's exactly what they will do. I just get emotional about Astrid. You know that. ;)

Honestly, I think anyone who's invested in Astrid's character is bound to be disappointed. If ever she was going to get story it would have been in the first couple of seasons when things were still somewhat procedural. Now, if she's not one of the main three, she's got an uphill battle to fight for screen-time (especially now with Lincoln). I think that the Lincoln/Astrid moment you suggested would be great to see - and I think it would totally fit into any episode. Maybe we can cross our fingers ( ... )

It's tough being an Astrid fan. That's for sure. As I was telling cosetteferaud I just still get really emotional about Astrid. I got attached to her during my marathon of Seasons 1 & 2 and just kept wishfully thinking her character would grow eventually. No one warned me not to get my hopes up. XD ( ... )

Oh, I kind of already knew her character wouldn't evolve from the lab assistant/babysitter...so I never got particularly attached to her as a character (although I do like her ( ... )

Turns out Peter actually did exist. In both universes. He just “died” in both of them. THIS is not what was said at the end of S3. He never existed. That’s what was said. This feels like a big fat cheat/cop-out/retcon to me if I ever smelled one. And I don’t like it.

Interesting because I always assumed the observers meant Peter didn't exist past the point of intervention (when he should have drowned) because if it hadn't been for Peter dying and Walter crossing over to steal Alt!Peter the two universes wouldn't have been failing and needed the bridge created in the S3 finale. Hmmm.

Yeah, see I wasn't sure on that. I remember being confused at the end of S3 and saying it made no sense, because it would create a paradox where Walter would've never crossed over in the first place. And I remember some interviews right after S3 was over where Joel and Jeff were like, "Oh Walter and Belly would've found a way to cross over regardless ( ... )
