But since I've given up almost every single vice (except soft drinks) drawing hands soothes me.

Love the hands.

I think it's rude of people to ask, tbh (especially at this short notice. WTF?), especially as you're not sitting on the sidewalk doing that for a living. People ask me all the time to write them stuff for their websites/flyers etc - and like you say, they do it in a manner to suggest I'm in the gutter begging and I should be grateful for the scraps, when actually I probably earn more than they do. You need to value what you do, even if other people can't seem to.

I suppose they think I'd be flattered to just do it, in a way I am flattered enough to think that they would even want something of mine hanging on their wall, or good enough for a friend. But not enough to spend all that time. I'm fairly fast b/w, but a full on color is a lot to ask of someone who is not even a bestie.

Thanks!

Just so you know, I kind of wait around on pins and needles for your hands. I love them. I have a thing about hands and yours are just so freaking gorgeous.

*hugs*

Beautiful, lovely hands, you really are so good at drawing hands.

I know just what you mean. People tend to assume that if you do art then you'll get just as much enjoyment from whatever you paint. And you don't, some things are fun (like pretty gay men) and some things are just jobs to get through.

And most people really don't realise how much work and time is involved. A wealthy woman in work asked me to paint her daughter, and then just gave me a 4.50 bottle of wine as a thank you.

Even if you charge a reasonable amount, then you still aren't getting anything like even minimum wage rates for the hours of work involved.

You are joking right? 4.50? You are of the caliber who could charge hundreds for a portrait, 4.50 wouldn't even cover a tip.

You're right, even a decent amount would be below minimum wage, that would factor in the love for doing something artistic. Also nothing is created in thin area, materials are expensive. You work on canvas, that stuff ain't cheap. Even digital isn't nothing, tablets and computers and printing costs.

Well, I can't sell the original art, unfortunately, no-one wants it, let alone charge hundreds ( ... )

Making my usual request to turn your divine sketch into a credited icon. (Shall 'watermark' your username on them if you like)
