OK, I used to really really love Nintendo. Back in the 80's their original NES was amazing, they had a great library of great games. Then came SNES and it too was great, even more good games, sequels that did justice to or surpassed the originals, blazing fast beautiful 16 bit games that looked soo realistic ( Read more... )

snes was hands down the greatest accomplishment for nintendo. super punch-out is possibly my favorite video game of all time. combine that with final fantasy, and you've already got a more impressive library of games than 360. to be honest with you, i stopped expecting good things from nintendo when i held that three pronged controller so i'm not expecting that much from wii. right now i'm so smitten with the 360 that i find it hard to believe that even ps3 will measure up, let alone wii. from this point on, if i have to walk all the way over to the system to turn it on, i ain't buyin' your shit. i'm actually upset that i like the 360 so much. i *want* to like the ps3 better, but i don't know if it's going to happen. as a system i don't have any complaints about it. i just need some good games, which i think is where ps3 will dominate.

Since the PS3 will have significantly more processing power than the 360 I'd expect better graphics at the least. I think they should be able to duplicate the 360s wireless controller setup since it's been out for a few months now and everyone loves it.

N64 had 2 things that were killer apps for me: Pokemon Puzzle League (aka Tetris Attack 64 with Pokemon characters & a cylindrical 3D mode) and Pokemon Stadium, in which i could take the Pokemon i trained on my GB & battle them in an arena. as soon as that shit came out, i bought N64. it was just that simple. if they had ever brought out the Nintendo Puzzle Collection in the US, that would have probably pushed me over the edge, forcing me to buy a GC. alas ( ... )

if the motion sensing works well and doesn't cost $1,000,000 i am totally down. i'm just worried it will suck, like that boxing game at dave & busters. i want the industry to change. i yearn for the days of brain plug-ins or even total vr. i just don't want to deal with all the steps between now and then.

game cube definitely has the most INTERESTING games across the board, & they have the balls to try new things. animal crossing, pikmin, mario sunshine - these games are all CLASSICS. i don't think katamari would have happened if not for the success of these types of games on GC. they have continually reinvented their core series (mario, zelda, metroid, donkey kong), keeping them fresh & exciting. plus they release pretty much every single star wars game. GC is the system i always regret not buying before that DUI fucked up my finances for 3+ years. plus it is cute as hell & comes in colors. i am a sucker for shit like that.

i don't really have a problem with the name Wii.

If the XBOX had a good name already being used for a codename and then changed it then they made a big mistake. Which is pretty much how I feel about Nintendo changing the name from Revolution to Wii.

also? if the idea was to set the internet on fire with people talking about/criticizing/defending the name, that surely worked. every board on every gaming site is crazy with Wii talk today.

i could be wrong, but my understanding is that the prior nintendo games (except GC discs, which the Wii will read) will be available online in the "virtual console," xbox arcade stylee. this is supposed to include famicom/super famicom games that never made it to the US. some of them might even be playable online. and not just prior nintendo games, but they are looking at licensing games from the genesis & turbografx 16 as well. that would be the hot shit, i think...

This is one of the huge amazing awesome perfect ideas that Nintendo sometimes has. I would be a complete liar if I said that the idea of being able to download/buy and play all the old 8 bit and 16 bit games for all consoles as well as all other Nintendo games didn't excite me.
