Squirrel Cabin, early Friday evening

Jul 21, 2006 15:06

Everything was too glaringly bright with his pupils dilated for him to want to go to the job fair or hang out outside. It wasn't as though he didn't know what he was doing for a living when he left ( Read more... )

"Yep," Pip responded. "Although it's a bit of a regift. Crowley gave it to me for my birthday."

He tossed a box onto Walter's bed. Things clanked around noticibly.

Walter looked at it curiously and opened the box to be presented with the familiar result of his handiwork in the neatly destroyed remnants of Pip's M16.

"I asked about getting you a replacement when I was home, but they didn't know what I was talking about. I looked it up, and I found out why. M16s weren't invented then." He pulled out a piece of the barrel and fished around for the next part it fit against.

"I should just give you the money and let you replace it yourself."

Pip shrugged. "Up to you. I've been looking around lately myself for a possible replacement. Maybe you can take up gunsmithing and do it yourself," he said, grinning.

"Seras had some books on the subject," Walter mused. "And I am interested. I think you should let me know how much for a proper replacement, and if I get this," he poked the box, "back in order, we'll discuss a fair trade."

Pip nodded and told him how much an M-16 would cost. "Although it depends on the channels you get it through."

Walter made a bit of a face at the amount, but really, he was holding the remnants of Pip's last one, replacing it was only fair. "It's a bit late for a trip to the bank, but I can do that on Monday.

"This will keep me occupied if I find myself at loose ends."

Pip nodded. "Even if you never can fix it, why not give it a try? It'll give you something to do, at least."

"If I never can fix it?" Walter looked away from the gun parts and up at Pip. "Is that some sort of challenge?"

"....Maybe. Are you looking for a challenge, oh vested one?"

"Things get boring when they're too easy."

"Oh? In that case, screw your money. I care not for it. It insults my mercenaric sensibillities. I'll only accept a reapir job, sir, and that is that!"

"I'm not going to learn weaponsmithing in a month, you know. So don't come bitching to me if you don't have your M16 for the next invasion."

Pip shrugged. "That's a risk I'll have to take."

"It's a deal." Walter set Pup aside and held out a hand. "I'll return this to you in equal or better condition to when you last used it."

Pip took Walter's hand. "Alright then. I'm holding you to that."

"You won't have to," Walter said, giving his hand a firm shake before sitting back and letting Pup scramble onto his lap again.
