MagiStream has an enviable atmosphere, too! It's roughly what I'm going for with SFF, and while I may tolerate slightly more on the I.C.Q. forums (mostly because they have a different focus - SFF is supposed to be an "everyone is welcome" type place for Swedish furries while the comic's forum is a place for adult fans of an adult comic to hang out), my most important rule on both sites is "don't be a dick" exactly because I loathe people who skirt rules to be just barely not nasty enough to warrant action ( ... )

I think MagiStream's atmosphere is largely due to the fact that Tristan and its creator are exceedingly mature for their ages and know how to handle a business (unlike PI, which I did not mention and whose moderators are nearly ineffective).

I sometimes wish Tristan would erase all other rules and simply put "Don't be a dick" in their place because it would allow us to do something about the rule skirters but there's too much leeway and not enough definition there.

Oh, my fingers do itch...but I'm even better at the intellectual slap-down, the kind that is within the rules and polite but leaves no doubt that the person on the receiving end has been told they're stupid.

The PI forums, from what I saw of them, still are better than FA's. I've seen moderators outright insult people with absolutely no repercussions, and some of the regulars are pretty much never not nasty ( ... )

Grins, "Boy do i recognize this thanks to two projects of my own. Ain't it fun? It really makes you appreciate what's done behind the scenes."

I'm smart enough to know someone had to be doing something to make the community so pristine and friendly, but I'd never given it much thought beyond that. Now, having spent my dinner hour and part of my sleep cycle getting rid of someone obnoxious like that, I appreciate it all the more.

A mod definitely has my admiration and a job I do not want. Very well done.

It wasn't what I was looking for either. Since the site was run by teens and mostly frequented by teens I didn't figure they would ever want anyone older with a finger in their pies.

I figured wrong. While I don't enjoy moderating, I do appreciate that it needs done and I do appreciate that I'm uniquely suited to moderate this type of forum.

Thanks for the interesting insight into how forums work. I have been very active on the NSBR board at twopeas (scrapbooking) for 8 years and its pretty unmoderated. oh the screaming and name calling, the rampant bitchiness, it is highly amusing

The site you linked looked really cool. Usually Id consider at leasr trying it oit but no way I'll have time now bc I JUST GOT A JOB. its in theological librarianship!!! I am sooo excited!!! but since i am still auditing classes 2 nights a week I am gonna be too busy for anything new for a while.

i enjoued learning about how it all works.

Much easier to get and give information and exchange things when such behaviors aren't allowed.

I adore MS. When your work settles, do try it. The artwork is awesome and they put out at least one new creature a month.

Congrats on the job, and even what you wanted! I know jobs are hard to come by these days, especially ones you actually want and are suited for.

Interesting.
I hadn't really thought about what forum moderator's do. And I like the insight to MagiStream.
I may get a bit more active on there, other than clicking your and D's animals.
