I love this! I have a thing for plants in the house as well... when I lived in Florida, I had a Schefflera that got so huge I had to plant it in the yard... when I moved, it was higher than the roofline... *grin*

I love this little story about tenacity! GO JADE PLANT!

I did eventually manage to successfully grow plants inside the house but the jade plant is one of my favorites. I gave up on most cacti; they just don't like the humidity and won't grow here.

Another former Florida resident. I think that is where I figured out I had a black thumb as I was so pants with house plants. Never considered it was Florida. :)

Still Mum seemed to do alright with the garden.

Like the kitty touch... my cat Robin (shown here) loves flowers and snacks on them.

Mine have finally learned that if they get up where the flowers are (my husband likes to buy them for the house and we put them on the kitchen table) they are going to get unpleasantly squirted with a Super Soaker.

It doesn't help that I'm between zones either. My house sits exactly ON the line between 8a and 8b which means some things will grow here and some don't. Citrus, for instance, will grow here and so will apples and other fruits which typically need a bit of frost to finish them. A few miles south of us neither will grow; too cold for the citrus, too warm for the apples.

Florida is just weird, it's an ecology unto itself.

I can't stop laughing at teh image of your cats eating plants like designer drugs. Mine do the same. *lol*

Fun entry!

Thanks! For some reason they know not to disturb what's on the altar (well, except for drinking out of the chalice) so the Survivor Jade is probably safe for the foreseeable future. Just now they're munching on the fall flowers I gathered.

Nice job! I have always wished I had a green thumb and the ability to grow things.

Normally, I do. Florida just has me baffled. When I'd be putting the garden to bed, they're putting in a second crop of summer vegetables. When nothing will grow where I'm from, they're putting in their cold weather crops. When the harvest would be at its height things quit growing because it's too hot. I'm slowly learning the patterns but it's hard work.

Thanks for reading.

That is such a sweet story about a tenacious little flower. Almost sounds like the stuff of children's books. (I know I would rather have a little flower than a little engine, as sweet as the story about the Little Engine That Could can be.)

Well, with its weird survivor instincts it fits right in with the rest of the house. As Fox reminded me, the original plant is three years gone at least, but I still have this little guy.

Actually, I think the cats know their days are numbered if they get up on the altar. It's the only place they won't go. Jades are pretty hard to kill if you don't have cats who like to dine on them and they're so very pretty. A good healthy one later acquires a rich ruby color around the edges of the leaves.
