After 24 hours spent in a combination of airports and airplanes, I am finally home.

Now I have to figure out how to get everything (school, social life, prom, graduation party) organised in time.

Yikes!

Well, I'm boarding a plane tonight, but I won't get to Ohio unitl tommorow night.

It's going to be a long night.

Well, today was my last day.

But before I get into that, I EXPERIENCED AN EARTHQUAKE!  It was super awesome.  I was making cookies at home, when all of a sudden a semi crashed into the house and shook it for 30 seconds. My Aunt Gwen left work early to go hiking with me on my day off.   We went to the place where lava is currently flowing, but the hot lava was a eight mile (roundtrip) hike on uneven, treacherous, cold lava flows.  So instead we walked about 1/2 mile out on cold lava just to see what it feels like.

Today I made peach poke cake (white cake w/ peach jello) and brought it into the restaurant.  Everyone loved it.  I offered Albert a piece; he looked at the cake, then looked down at his stomach, frowned at its mass, and shook his head.  It was pretty funny in an Albert sort of way.  I think his wife, Lorna, got him to share a slice with her later ( Read more... )

I've only got two more days of working in the restaurant!  Tony says that he was really glad I came, and that I've been reliable and a great help. It was a busy night in the sense that the customers came in waves rather than steadily.  I worked "the corner" again tonight - plating dishes and such.  It was only Gary, Maleah, Albert, and I working the kitchen tonight.  I felt kindof bad because Maleah got the boring jobs since I took over her spot, but I offered to trade halfway through ( Read more... )

Today I went on a wild lava tube hike in Hawai'i Nat'l Park.  Only 12 people are allowed on the weekly tour to preserve the cave's prisine condition. Its a two mile walk downhill to get to the cave and 2 miles uphill (I managed to hike that uphill portion in 25 minutes).

It was a pretty neat and informative hike.  I learned that indigenous species ( Read more... )

Today the only people working were Tony, Cathy, and I. Tony was the cook and I worked the corner again. But unlike Gary or Mike, Tony doesn't tell me what plates he wants and when, so I have to guess when to prepare a plate by how fast whatever he's cooking is going.  Definatley harder ( Read more... )
