[ master post]

This is where the magic happens.

Most people will come in through Milliways and exit out the cargo bay to go have some fun. But some might need to take detours. And of course, some people live here.

Some people work here, too -- especially if they're working on repairs.

The tall woman who steps into the cargo bay looks exceedingly pleased to be doing so, a swift grin accompanying her. She wears fitted gray trousers, dusty black boots, a purple tunic, and a vest, with at least one visible weapon (the familiar weight of a heavy blaster at her right hip) -- the uniform of the off-duty pilot. Her red hair has been pulled into a low, loose ponytail; her swagger is set to on.

(It's not often you get to do things like this, being the easily recognizable empress of a planet.)

She's looking around the cargo bay with interest, hand on her hip.

"I'm a guide," River announces cheerfully, poking her head around the door, and then slipping all the way into the room.

The kitchen's a cozy space, possibly the coziest on the ship. There's a sturdy, slightly battered dinner table big enough for the whole crew, and a smaller round table with a few chairs off in a corner; one metal door leads to a storage locker, and wide stairs at the far end of the room pass through an open doorway up into an elevated hall. Everything is efficient for a small space: the sink, the small stove, the plethora of metal cabinets set into the wall. The walls have tiny flowers hand-stenciled on them, twining up the support pillars.

"A very fine one, too," says Plourr, bemused, and she steps into the kitchen behind River to peer around with interest, and -- well now. It may have been a brief meeting, but Inara's pretty recognizable.

"--Hey," she says. "Inara, right?"

"Hi, meimei," Inara says to River, smiling warmly at her.

Her smile brightens even more as she recognizes the woman.
"Yes, and you are Plourr, if I remember correct. It's a pleasure to see you again."

"Yeah," says Plourr, with something of a smile in return. "Likewise. River's giving me the grand tour, here. She's falling down on her duties, though." This last is more to River than Inara as Plourr takes another step into the room, looking around.

"I'm guessing this is the kitchen?"

River sticks her tongue out at Plourr's back.

With great and tour-guidely dignity, of course.

Inara laughs at River's expression.

"Yes, this is the kitchen. We used to be stuck with mostly protein of various shades - praise Buddha for Milliways."

"I saw that," Plourr says without turning around. She has eyes in the back of her head!

Or she saw River reflected in something shiny.

Either way.

"It looks very -- homey," she decides.

Either way, River looks briefly surprised, and then cheerfully unrepentant.

"There's fruit."

Milliways WINS in this way.

"This one of my favorite rooms," Inara admits. "It's nice when we can all eat together in here."

She smiles at River's comment. Milliways absolutely wins.
"Would you care for anything? Something to drink or eat?"

"Thanks, I'm good," says Plourr, comfortably. She glances at River. It is a 'more things now?' sort of a look. It's not to say that Inara isn't interesting -- she is! -- it's more that there is more ship to see.

"She's impatient for the circuitry mods," River informs Inara tolerantly, and moves towards the far door.

Inara grins in acknowledgement.

"Well, it was lovely to see you again, and I hope we will in the future. Enjoy your tour. You are in good hands."

"I don't know why she says these things," Plourr says to Inara, pointing at River. She's grinning all the same, though, unrepentant and broad. "Thanks. Good to see you, too. Hey, Tam, slow your ass down already; I'm coming."

"You're an old lady," River acknowledges sympathetically. Can't keep up; it's tragic, really.

...It may not be accident that there's half a room between them when she says that.

And any hints of an unrepentant grin are surely just Plourr's imagination.

"You," says the 23-year-old, and you bet your ass she's pointing at River now, "are asking for it."

She's following, though!
