"Have a minute?"

"If you need one."

Looks at him, but when he speaks, he doesn't quite see him, "Are you messing with my brother?"

"I would not call what I'm doing with your brother, messing."

"What are you doing?"

"Getting to know him."

"How?"

"Whatever way he likes."

He's rather disgusted by that, and it shows. "Are you serious?"

"Do you have some problem?"

"Yes."

"I can't help you with it."

"Yes, you can. Stay away from my brother."

"He's my linemate."

"Off the ice."

"And my friend."

"Friend?"

"Do you honestly want the details?"

"No! But if you're saying friend...."

"I'm trying to spare you."

Frowns. "Don't."

"We aren't going to stop. Get used to it."

"For how long?"

"As long as we want."

"We?"

"We. Thank you for your concern, little brother."

"I'm not your brother."

"Are you finished?"

"No. You didn't answer me."

"Which of your questions did I skip?"

"You didn't answer any of them. You don't even know him."

"That is the point, little brother."

"Stop calling me that."

"Finish asking your questions."

"He's not like you."

"No, he would be boring if he was."

"He's not Russian."

"Have you asked him?"

Scoffs. "We're from Belarus. Didn't you know that?"

"I asked your brother what he thinks of it, yes."

"He wouldn't say anything to you."

"He's going to be completely forthcoming to you? With that attitude? Stop taking the moral high ground. Or do you allow him to have a different opinion than your own?"

"He can have whatever opinion he wants, but you don't even know him and you're being like that." Waves at him.

"Being what? Liking him?"

"Liking?"

"That is what people do."

"They also use people. I've played in Canada for a few years now."

"Some people do. Has your brother complained to you?"

Frowns, "No."

"No, because he's happy."

"For now."

"That's all anyone can hope for, to be happy now."

"You're going to hurt him later and you don't understand."

"You concern is touching, but the only one who will hurt your brother is you, if you keep acting like this."

"He's not like Canadians."

"I don't want a Canadian."

"You can't treat him like one."

"Have you seen me do so?"

"You will."

"No, you haven't. You have nothing to complain at me about."

"I'm trying to stop it. You're older than him."

"I know. I'm also done with this conversation."

"Now you're done. You know it's kinda sick."

"Now, I'm going to go take Andrei out."

"You don't actually care about him. Just what you can get."

"Do you want to come chaperone?"

"What? No. You should just date somebody your own age."

"You don't want to chaperone, you don't want details, what can I give you?"

"Just leave him alone."

"What do you think would upset Andryusha more? My leaving or my staying?"

"Don't call him that."

"Answer the question."

"You'll leave eventually. That's going to hurt him more the longer it takes. Who else are you fucking besides?"

"Who I am fucking as you so delicately put it is Andrei."

"Besides him."

"Eugenia."

Wrinkles his nose, "You know what mean."

"I'm afraid I can't come up with any more names."

"Can't remember?"

"It's really been too long, or do you want my entire past history?"

"Just him and that's it?"

"That's all."

"Do you..." Shakes his head, no. "Just-- he's not like you. Okay?"

"If you can tell me that I don't know I him, I am going to say you don't know me either. At all."

"You're more than thirty."

"That's all you can say about me."

"That's enough!"

"That is nothing."

"Do you know how old he is?"

Laughs, "Yes, I know his birthday."

"Then you know how gross that is. It's like... like sleeping with your coach."

"I am not quite that old, yet."

"Almost."

"Thank you, little brother. I'm going to find Andrei now."

"Stop calling me that."

"Stop calling me old."

"You are."

"And you are the little brother."

"Not yours."

"Have a good day, Sergei. Don't strain yourself."

"I shouldn't have bothered. You didn't listen."

"I heard what you said, I'm not going to stop seeing him though."

"Using him."

"If anything he would be using me for his career."

Scoffs, "Like he needs to."

"He has things he would like to learn."

"Hockey, maybe."

"I'm not going to explain us to you."

"You couldn't if you tried."

"No, I'm not going to bother for someone who can't even hear me."

"I hear you. But you keep lying."

"I have lied about nothing."

"You are using him."

"You keep insiting that must be so. Is it impossible someone could like your brother just for himself? Do you think so little of him? Do you think he's that stupid?"

"He's different. He trusts people. I know better."

"I'm sorry for you."

"Do you love him?"

"I don't know yet, I'm finding out. You wouldn't be the first person I tell."

Wrinkles his nose.

"Thank you, for your opinion."

Shakes his head, "I'm done here. You're not listening."

"I don't plan to, if the only thing you have to say is leave him."

"You should!"

"Should what?"

"I should take you out. What do you say to that?"

Smiles, "I like that idea. But that's not what he was yelling about. What were you talking about?"

"A difference in opinion. Nothing to worry about."

"Tell me, please?"

"Sergei, why don't you tell him what you were yelling about."

"I don't think he's good for you."

"You said that?!"

"Well, I don't!"

"It's not your business. Go home."

"But he can't--"

"I said go home! Find someone of your own."

"But he---"

"Sergei."

"Fine." Shoots a glare at Alexei but heads for the door.

Pulls Andrei against him, "He's your brother, he's looking out for you."

"He needs to mind his own business."

"I believe he's under the impression you are his business."

"He's under the impression he's my mother."

Laughs, "Yes. Where can I take you?"

Smiles, tucking his hair behind his ear, "Hmm.... let's go somewhere really nice."

"I could fly you away from here."

His smile becomes a grin, "Let's."

Matches it, playfully, "But Sergei might come after me with pitchforks."

Laughs, "He can't jump that high."

"I'm more afraid for when we land."

"We won't tell him when. He has to get a life of his own." Shakes his head, "I think that's his real problem."

"Maybe he is a little jealous that you have someone and he doesn't?"

"I think he is. I feel bad for him."

"You should enjoy what you have."

"I do. Very much. But he is my brother. And I think if he had something of his own, he would leave you alone. He has no right to say any of those things."

"He can say what he wants. He's your brother."

"You don't mind?"

Shrugs, "If he didn't have anything to say then I would think he wasn't doing his familial duty."

"He's my little brother."

"This has never stopped me from telling my sister what to do."

"She's a sister."

"She could beat you."

Laughs, "Really?"

"I'm quite serious."

"I believe you. Can we go now?"

"All you have to do is choose a destination."

"I don't know where."

"I'll pick then. I have to check the weather, but other than that we are good."

"Okay." Smiles at him, "Thank you for putting up with Sergei."

"He's family, no?"

"Yes, but..."

"That's the end of it."

"I can still thank you for it."

"But I don't want you to thank me."

"Why not?"

"It's a stupid thing to thank a person for. I should be polite to your brother."

"Okay, let me do this instead." Steps closer to kiss him sweetly.

Smiles, "That is not why I should be polite to your brother either."

"Enough about him, I'm thinking about something else now." Kisses him again.

"Is this what you're demanding? We stay in?"

Looks at him a minute, "Yes, I think I am."

"It is your choice to miss out on all the excitement."

"I thought I was picking to have it."

"Oh yes, of course, my mistake."

Laughs, "I don't need much."

"I'm happy to be mistaken." Seeks out another kiss.

"Mmm, Alexei. Can we go home?"

"I wasn't going to stay here all night."

"You have to start moving then."

"Speed has never been my strongest suit."

Laughs, "That's a lie."

"I never trust most of what the press says, but I can admit that I'm not as fast as I could be."

"I wouldn't be able to keep up if you were much faster."

"Now, who is the liar?"

Laughs, "Still you."

"No, no, no. I have told nothing but the truth."

"Is that all you ever do? Tell the truth."

"Yes, it is what gets me in so much trouble."

"Then tell me something. Anything, I don't care what."

"I wish everyone would stop giving us dirty looks."

Frowns, "We are we doing wrong?"

"What I am, would be a better way to say it."

"You aren't doing it alone. What is so wrong about us?"

"People think I'm not supposed to want you."

"Why not?"

"You're young, I'm not, they have a problem with it."

"That's stupid. Why do they care?"

"When have you ever met a single person who didn't give you their opinion on everything?"

"I grew up with Sergei."

"He is lucky he's on this team."

"Why do you say that?"

Laughs, "Because this is Montreal, they are used to people with sharp tongues. He wouldn't do so well with American teams."

"I wonder sometimes if he wants to secretly become Canadian."

"Not enough tact."

"To be Canadian?!"

"No, not hardly enough."

"What tact do they have when they're always commenting on who people are sleeping with?"

"Oh but they expect you to pretend you aren't criticising someone, when you are. You have to bullshit first and say things you don't mean."

Shakes his head, "I'm glad the press doesn't ask me anything."

"Wait until they do, and it's in French."

"Do you understand it?"

"A little."

"I barely understand their English."

"I had time to learn English before I moved here."

"Sergei speaks better than I do."

"I don't need you to speak any of that here."

"I already know two, I wish I didn't need to learn anymore."

"Malkin hasn't bothered."

"I like it better with no press anyway."

"They'll eventually make something of it. Forget English, just move onto French."

Frowns. "I don't like that either."

"You only need to learn a few sentences."

"Merci."

"That isn't one of them."

"Why not?"

"Who is polite in French?"

"I don't know. I can't tell what they're saying."

"They do that on purpose."

"I believe it."

"You can ask one of our teammates to explain it to you."

"I don't need to. If they want to say something to me, they can say it so I can understand."

"Andrei, you can't be that naive."

"That's not naive. I have to learn another language, they should at least be respectful enough to talk to me in that one. I'm not asking them to learn Russian."

"That is what you are being naive about, that they are going to respect you at all."

"They should."

"They never have, they never will."

"That's their fault."

"And you think it changes things that it is their fault?"

"No."

"So you will learn something."

"I can wish it was different."

"I thought that once, but it's been fifteen years now. I don't expect it anymore."

"Then in fifteen years, maybe I'll stop."

"Things just don't change around here."

"Ever?"

"Not really."

"You have had someone like me before?"

"Not like you."

"Then things do change around here."

"It's an addition."

"It's a change."

"Call it what you will."

"I can be right sometimes."

"That was not in your contract."

"It's happened twice now." Grins.

"What was the first?"

"When I told Sergei you were interested in me."

"He had some doubt?"

"Some?!" Laughs.

"I don't see how there was any doubt on my part."

"Because you're you, he said. You'd never want some rookie. He said you probably had someone who would beat me up for even looking at you."

Laughs, "But there is no one."

"I know that now. I told him I could tell there was something when you talked to me. He said I was being stupid."

"I thought I was being very obvious."

"Not very."

"The question was really about your interest, not mine."

"Mine?!"

"Yes, yours."

"That's just silly. Sergei said I probably made a fool of myself and you were laughing at me behind my back, because of the way I talked about you to him."

"Sergei doesn't know half as much as he thinks."

"Even less. But I did talk a lot about you."

"But how was I going to know that?"

"It wasn't obvious when I was talking to you? I was so sure you were going to tell me to get away from you."

Shakes his head, "I couldn't tell if you wanted me."

"There aren't doubts now, are there?"

"Nothing you can't cure."

"I want to be with you more than anything."

"More than you want to play?"

"It's a different kind of want." Touches his hair, "It's something that I can't stop thinking about."

"Where do you come up with these things, hmm?"

"What things?"

"These things you say."

"They're just in my head. You don't mind, do you?"

"Mmm, mmm."

"When we stretch before a game, out there on the ice in front of everyone, I watch you. I think that's my favourite time to watch you."

"You know that is the wrong time for it."

"I know. But I'm just looking. I know how to stretch, I don't have to concentrate on that."

"What about your game?"

"I think about that in the locker room while I'm trying to get you out of my head."

"How can you do that? With me right next to you on the ice. This close, all the time."

"Because I know I can't disappoint you by not concentrating on the game."

"You haven't disappointed me yet."

Smiles, "Good. I don't want to. And I don't want to disappoint myself either."

"I'd only be disappointed if you weren't up on this team with me."

"So would I. I don't want to give them any reason to send me back."

"So you won't."

"No, I won't." Tucks Alexei's hair behind his ear, or at least mimes it subconsciously, his own nervous habit.

"Home."

"Yes."

"I'll even take you the safe way, in the car."

"This time." Steps reluctantly away from him.

"Yes, for now. Where do you want to go?"

"Home. We said home."

"Yes, but whose?"

"You like yours better."

"It is a little more spacious."

"I like it. Until I get a house of my own."

"Yes, come on then."

Nods, walking for the door, "Do you think..." Frowns, "No one will mind, will they?"

"It'll be fine."

"Are you sure?"

"There's nothing wrong with you coming over."

Nods, "Okay."

Walks towards the door.

"He doesn't like me."

"Who?"

"Your son."

"Ivan likes you fine."

"The other one."

"Nikita is getting used to you."

"He doesn't like me."

"This is new for him."

"Should we not go to your house?"

"That won't help him get used to you being around."

"I don't want to upset him."

"You won't."

"Alright, if you say so."

"He is just having a fit for no good reason, he'll get over it."

Nods, "I want him to like me. Vanya doesn't have a problem with me, why does Nikita?"

"No one has ever come over our house like this."

"Ever?"

"No, it's not normal to him."

Smiles a little, "He'll get used to me."

"He will. But he has never seen me, like this." Pauses before they can make it outside, kissing him.

Melts against him, "Mmm... Like this?"

"No, he doesn't know I do this." Smiles, "Maybe I didn't either."

Laughs a little, "You do now."

"Come home with me." Kisses him slowly.

Lingers in the kiss as long as he can. Whispered, "Yes.... home."

"Get in the car, Andryusha."

Smiles for him, before stepping away to finally make it to the car.

Shakes his head a little, before following.
