I have decided that I do not like alternate universe fics about real life people. It makes even less sense than the characters getting together in the first place. Well, admittedly I've only just begun looking into this kind of stuff and have had the misfortune of being unable to stumble into a well written AU RL character fic. So I suppose the ( Read more... )

I like some RPF. I tried reading some Chris Pine/Zachary Quinto fic, and it was hilarious, though I'm not sure how true to character it was. I've also read some Stargate: Atlantis RPF that -- as far as I know -- was pretty close to in character for the people in question, and it was HOT.

Never read an alternate universe fanfic though. It sounds....different. With all the ways for RL people to get together, why resort to an AU?

I've just been reading badfic. I like RPF that's... you know, in our universe. I must be in the wrong comm. (Well actually I take that back; I found something good there today. (It's leaning toward BDSM and I actually like the concept. It was rawr. (It's a WIP though and I hope I don't lose interest before it's done...)))

The idea of RPF actually put me off quite a bit when I first considered the idea. But after reading some good fic I like the idea quite a bit. The potential is there and the possibilities are endless.

The first time I read some RPF, I felt guilty for a week. But, well...it's all make-believe. I'm not the type of person to truly believe two people are together or meant to be just because I like the idea of it.

Sounds like you might be in the wrong comm. (I've always liked fics with light BDSM -- where one person is like, aggressively (but not abusively) in charge? Rawr.) What fandom are you reading RPF for?

Ah, it's not the comm's fault. People put their necks out there on that chopping block when they post their fics and I just happen to have an axe when I find plot holes and OOCness. I think a great author can turn any basic plot idea into gold if they are, well, a great author.

I am in my Johnny's fandom (i.e. boy bands, namely Arashi) comm, jent_fics.
