[The last day of fighting.  It's been going on for so long now, and it's been a state of constant battle since it started for Adell.  He's been fighting almost every waking hour so others didn't have to, stopping only to eat and sleep when he was running low on energy.  By now, his body's getting pretty tired.

[Lyn doesn't know who this woman is, nor does she really have much experience with guns, but what she does know is that her friend is being attacked. So here she comes, rushing to his defense.]

The Overlord was responsible for cursing Veldime, turning the humans on the world into demons, and sapping their memories and consciences to further his own power.

What I set out to do was to break his curse by defeating him.

That's right... I remember now, you did tell me about that, once.

No wonder she was so strong, if she was the daughter of a man who can curse an entire world. [Her expression turns reflective, thoughtful.] He sounds even worse than Nergal...

Actually, if you can believe it, when I met her, Rozalin didn't know a thing about how to fight. She... wasn't helpless, per se. But she definitely couldn't do any of the stuff that she pulled on us.

[He turns his head at the name she mentioned. It's not familiar... he doesn't remember if she's ever talked about it before.]

...Nergal?

[upontheplains]

Oh? Sheltered, was she?

[She sighs and turns back to him. That's right, she never did tell him about her own adventures...]

My and my friends' enemy on my world. He was a very powerful mage, one who only wanted more power... and was willing to do anything to get it. If I tried to recount all the horrible things he did, we'd be here all day, but suffice to say he's probably the worst singular person I've ever met.

[The Malnosso, as a group, don't count. Idly she wonders if they're actually worse.]

Like you wouldn't believe. It wasn't until she got summoned by accident that she even left... well, this manor.

[He thumbs over his shoulder at the huge estate that was the battlefield.]

...Did this Nergal guy get what was coming to him?

Oh? Who summoned her... no, wait, I think I can guess. It was you, wasn't it?

[She nods at that question, decisively.]

It took everything we had and it was a near thing a couple of times, but in the end, yes. He almost took us with him though... With his dying breath he brought three dragons into the world, and these dragons were nothing humans could deal with without help.

...It wasn't intentional. Hell, we didn't even know Rozalin existed before that. We were looking to summon the Overlord. Summoning magic is tricky! Mom was the one who made the spell, though...

[He looks at her when she says "dragons."]

Dragons? What did you do about it? They're probably different from the ones from my world...

Ah, I see. I don't know much about ritual magic like that... or any magic at all other than spirit magic, but I guess that's understandable. It always seemed very complicated.

Well, we had one advantage. One of our dear friends, Ninian, was a dragon herself. A dragon priestess in fact. She managed to calm two of the dragons before her power failed her, and then... well, it took all of us using everything we had, including weapons right out of legend, to take it down.

[She shudders as she remembers it.] It was incredible, Adell. Forty feet long, at least, twice that in wingspan. A head that could swallow a human being whole. And the heat of its flames... I still can't believe we all made it out alive, sometimes.
