A Birthday To Remember

Jun 05, 2007 21:26

When Pansy had informed Draco that he was to be having a birthday celebration at the Parkinson Manor this year, Draco couldn't help but feel somewhat apprehensive about the entire idea. He couldn't imagine how happy a birthday could possibly be that didn't involve at least one of his parents and wouldn't be held at the Malfoy Manor for the first time in over twenty years. Though, when it came to these sort of things, any attempt at stopping Pansy was futile if not possibly life-threatening.

Draco had eventually given in and allowed Pansy to do what she does best. It had been a small affair -- only a little over thirty guests invited -- with dinner, music, and dancing that had thus far been a huge success. Draco smirked to himself lightly before taking another sip of his champagne. Of course it had been a success, Pansy would have accepted no less when it came to Draco.

The night was winding down and only a handful of people remained, either dancing or taking advantage of the free drinks being served to them. As Draco began to weigh the decision of having another glass of champagne or perhaps moving onto something a bit stronger, he suddenly felt a distinct pull behind his ears followed by a low humming noise.

The wards.

Draco quickly began searching the crowd with his eyes and immediately locked with Pansy's. It only lasted a second though before Draco set his glass down, shook his wand from his left sleeve and quickly made his way out of the room hoping to not draw too much attention to himself. He couldn't afford the risk of someone in the room being apart of what had set the wards off so strongly. As Draco was leaving the room, he thought he heard Pansy call his name just before Apparating to the second floor of the Manor where the humming became instantly stronger. He wasted no time as he began to run in the direction of the library.

With a silent flick of his wand, the doors to the library flew open with a loud bang. Draco immediately came to a halt taking in the sight before him.

Books torn apart, covering the room...furniture in pieces all across the floor...and no one in sight.
