Please help!

I recently found out a friend of mine absolutely NEVER uses "OK" when writing. He always spells it out. He was so very opinionated about this I started to wonder if other people have strong opinions as well. I have strong opinions about word usage, but for whatever reason the OK/okay issue does not inspire me to passion.

So. Tell me!

I usually TYPE 'okay' because spell-check doesnt underline it.
But when I talk, I always use 'o.k.' ;)

but i type 'okay' because typographically speaking is such a nice word. look at that lovely balance of ascenders & descenders and the roundness of the letters between...

I agree, the roundy pokey of OK is okay!

OK and okay are both acceptable as long as the usage is consistent and you don't mix them in the same document. O.K., Ok, and other variations are not acceptable.

EW "Ok."

Although also, to be fair: yum, because it reminds me of okra.

Ha, this is funny! I prefer okay, but if I were to see just the letters, I feel like having the periods, O.K., is more correct for some reason. But I have no idea where these strong feelings come from!

Though in my IM/txt life it's all ok. Or sometimes just k. God. I don't use apostrophes there anymore either. Degradation of communication! In 100 years someone on futurelj will post a poll asking people to pick one: l8r or l8a. Then they will wonder about the 3tMoL0G of the term.

Clearly I don't IM/text enough because it took me for freaking ever to figure that out. HA. I'm one of those people who uses punctuation in text messages. You know, dorks.

lol. I used to use punctuation, spelling, etc. in text messages, but I SUCK and texting and my friends do it a lot. now I've developed a problem of accidentally hitting "OK" (that's what the button says) instead of "back" and sending a nonsensical half-finished text. NOW I've settled for just making sense. I still won't use "u" or "r" or x instead of a k or anything like that, but I'm not so worried about the apostrophies (sp?) or "okays" anymore. Man, I was really inconsistent with the quotes here, huh? I myself have only recently gotten okay with the use of OK by myself, but it has never bothered me as much in others as it was just something that didn't feel right for ME to do. Also, my state is abbreviated "OK" so there's that. I do have very strong feelings about things like capitalization in the middle of words, and the aforementioned u/r/x≠k. :P
