Action and consequence

Last night Elizabeth learned an important lesson. If you let go of your balloon, it will float away, and mommy can't rescue it for you. Her big blue eyes filled with tears, and her little lip quivered, as she whispered "Bye bye balloon." I remember the first time D lost something that could never be gotten back (that he cared about anyway...he took the occasional balloon floating away much more philosophically than E did ( ... )

first lessons are hard, and i'm sorry she was sad, but that is kind of cute.

if only things like losing balloons were still important to us as adults, if only we took small things preciously.
