So on Friday we got this email message saying that if my team got down below 20 defects, Santa would come and visit us this morning. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it wasn't a communal bottle of Bailey's for coffee and a box of Krispy Kremes. I don't even -like- donuts... at least not this sweet air that passes for donuts down here. If I - ( Read more... )

You have now had The Test. You are truly the parent of a toddler now.

How funny, I thought Cosmo was unique in her love of paint sample cards.

I have been through carrying a tantrum-kid to the car thing before. I feel for you. Still it's a good object lesson to our kids that there really are consequences to bad behavior in public. It only took doing that a couple of times before Cosmo's restaurant behavior improved noticeably.

I remember being with you a couple of those times, and thinking how calm and cool you remained. And thinking that there was no way I would be able to remain calm like that. But it is sort of a zen state you enter into. :)

I have some shape punchers at home, and we will occassionally punch shapes out of the paint samples and put them in her 'sticker book' which is really just a spiral bound notepad that she loves to put stickers in. She has some really nice paint samples in her collection. :D Some of the ones with decorative painting techniques on them are nice. Also wallpaper samples are nice.

The things you can amuse kids with for free :D

Those of us who have raised our children and survived toddlerhood applaude you for taking her out to the car and not subjecting all of us to her stellar performance. I'd much rather she ride it out in the parking lot than in the store and I'd throw my body in front of any CPS worker who tried to interfere.

I'm more than willing to celebrate Dawnmas. And the Krispy Kreme donuts. You have obviously not spoken to any true Southern women about KK donuts. so, since it's the anniversary of your birthing, i will share with you the Secret of the Krispy Kreme Sisterhood. Let them get stale. Two days stale. Then throw some butter in a skillet and toss in the KK donuts. Cook for a moment or two on each side over medium heat until they are lightly gold and the glaze caramelizes. Enjoy them with a hot cup of chickory coffee with a liberal splash of Bailey's. (And don't forget, Bailey's in hot chocolate is TO DIE FOR).

This is also a good use of stale honey buns.

I grew up in Charleston, SC and we had these once a year on our birthday. Enjoy!

I bet they are good that way... they probably develop a bit of texture when they are stale. And adding butter to just about anything makes it better. :D I may have to try that. If there are any donuts left at the end of the day, lol ( ... )

I was fortunate in aquiring my daughter after she had passed through the worst of this stage of toddlerhood. She had a couple of public displays, but I just didn't give in and she quit. The times when she really breaks down is when her bedtime routine is disrupted. If there's going to be a change, I have to tell her WELL in advance, and remind her closer to bedtime. If not, there will be tears, screaming, thrashing and kicking, at which time I turn off the light and close the door. And wait. Inevitably, she comes out for a hug once she's exhausted herself and realizes her fit will not win her anything.
