He watches Naruto's unsucessful attempts to figure the gadget out, from the corner of his eyes, and then watched Tenten's actions afterword. He looks to the gadget in his hands and opens it, watching it power on. he stares at it like it got on his nerves. He read the buttons and the numbers ( ... )

Sakura only blinked curiously at the stranger before smiling at Iruka. "Well, he says that our minds are all here in this world, but our bodies are in some sort of a machine. 'RPG Virtual Reality,' is what he called it. Some sort of game according to him, but that really doesn't explain how there are so many people from different worlds around."

It didn't make a whole lot of sense to begin with, but it was all she'd been able to find so far. Shrugging sheepishly at everyone she said, "I said there wasn't much to the theory."

"Huh," Shikamaru peered over Sakura's shoulder as she typed something in the device before stepping back and giving the group around her a bit of space. "It's a theory at least."

He turned to Iruka and the blond man. "Iruka-sensei," he nodded at his old teacher and studied Malik closely. "You're not from Konoha...."

"An unreliable theory, if you ask me," Iruka said, nodding at Shikamaru.

"This is Malik Ishtar," he continued so everyone could hear him. "He's from...Egypt, I believe," he glanced at Malik to make sure. "I'm sure you realize by now that there are a lot more people than just Leaf and Sand ninja here. And I'm just as sure that you'll all be nice," Iruka finished, though his last comment sounded less like an assurance and more like a promise.

Sakura finished a response and made and agreeing noise, "He admits that it was made mostly to stop people from continously sending 'where are we' and 'what happened' messages."

She listened to Iruka's introduction and smiled at Malik. "Nice to meet you."

Malik only considered them for a moment before smiling back. In his experience, one could never be too careful.

"It's nice to meet you, too," he said quietly. Maybe his time pretending to be someone else was a thing of the past, but that particular personality - kind and unassuming - was still useful.

Tenten, who was having so much fun searching the internet, finally put her device down. She looked around. More people had arrived. Neji, Hinata, Iruka, and some guy. Curios, Tenten walked towards Sakura's group and stood near the unknown person.

"Hi, Iruka-sensei. Who's your friend?" Tenten asked. She was too busy playing with her laptop to listen when Iruka told Sakura and Shikamaru about him.

"Oh, hello, Tenten." Iruka smiled. "This is my friend Malik. He'll be sticking with us for a little while." It wasn't until after he said it that it occurred to Iruka that Malik might be helpful in guarding the younger ninja. He would ask him about it later.

He caught sight of what Tenten was holding. "Oh," he said, pulling out his own, "have you figured out how to work these things?"

"Aah. Nice to meet you, Malik-san," Tenten said. She then smiled. Tenten then directed her attention back to Iruka.

"Sorta," Tenten replied. She held up here device and pressed a button. "This button let's you explore the internet. All you have to do is type in anything you want and then a list of things will appear." Tenten explained to Iruka. "This button here let's you post a 'livejournal.' I don't know what that is but we can use it to communicate and stuff."

Sakura nodded, adding, "We've mostly just been playing around with them to figure it all out. It looks like it'll be very useful."

"Iruka-sensei," Sakura frowned. "Shouldn't we find some shelter? From the messages that have been left on this thing, there are some dangerous things and people wandering around. Plus the weather isn't looking too good right now."

Iruka debated what to tell Sakura. He bit his lip, then nodded to himself. "It's probably worse than you think. Orochimaru is here, as well as Itachi. There could be more Akatsuki by now. We need a place that's easy to defend, preferably close by." He looked around at the ninja gathered around. "Did you see anything like that when you went on recon?"

"Maybe," Shikamaru frowned at the mention of so many enemy. This siuation just kept getting worse by the second. He pointed vaguely east, "I saw an apartment building that looked better than anything else I've seen. Empty lots around it, one door in the back and front, and not too many windows."

Frowning just a little at their topic of conversation, Malik decided to allow himself to be distracted. He knelt down next to the girl with the buns in her hair - Tenten? - having watched her explanation of the device to Iruka.

...it looked rather like one of Kaiba's absurd inventions might have, if they had ever had a use.

Tenten played around with her laptop. She then noticed Malik was watching her.
"Do you have one?" She asked as she lowered her laptop.

"No," he answered, grinning a little. "But I've used things that work about the same way, from what I can tell."

Tenten nodded. She looked in the bag and found one more laptop. She handed it to Malik. "Here. You'll be able to keep in touch with us,"
