BubbleVoid Guest Event: Info and Guidelines

Sep 24, 2009 21:10

Introduction

On 25th of September (that's tomorrow), we will be running a week-long story event where guests are able to participate in both our main and BBS comms. Characters from the same or similar realities as the current residents will begin to appear, as the cracks between their reality and that of the Void suddenly grow wider.

Some will layer upon the world as ghost-like entities, unaware of the other universe they have suddenly appeared in. Others, however, will be temporarily pulled into the Void completely, and as such will be able to interact with its facilities and residents. Only until the damage is repaired, of course!

This will be an easy way to "give it a go," participate in a game plot, and get to know our cast and our setting, without any need to commit.

Guests, however, are asked to recognise that this event is plot-relevant, and that it is likely that what happens will have a lasting effect on the game. We're not exactly a deathly serious bunch, and the game is pretty light-hearted, but how about we try to avoid OOC crack? :)

The story post will go up as an Open Log tomorrow, at which point guest commenting will be enabled. Guests may also participate in open logs started by our players during the week.

If it is requested, we may consider extending the time guests are allowed to comment, in order to allow threads to be tied up.

Who to Play

You may play as characters from any fandom already participating in this game. In addition, you may play from "closely connected universes" (canon AU, alternative canon source), or an AU version of the character.

Since this is a plot event, for the sake of having some organisation, characters from fandoms not yet represented in the game will not be allowed.

You may play characters as though they have been brought in from their current game if you wish, or keep them as "new." What happens here will not have an impact on your current game, unless of course you have moderator permission.

AU characters must follow the same restrictions as we would expect in an application. The following comes from our FAQ.

Q: What is AU?
A: An AU character is an existing fandom character who has had any of many potential circumstances tweaked significantly from their original. They will be the same character as the original version, but will usually have a considerably different background.

Q: How AU can we go with AU characters?
A: We define AU as being the same character but with an adapted background. The character must remain recognisable as themselves (although relevant tweaks to their personality may be essential to reflect the AU), from the same canon universe (for example, a Fullmetal Alchemist character can not come from the Yu-Gi-Oh universe), and approximately the same time frame as the original (for example, Harry Potter is from the 1990s, not from the Tudor period).

What You Need To Know

We recommend that you at least skim over both the Setting page and the Timeline page. Guest characters will arrive in a different manner to player characters, and as such would not necessarily need to worry about the train messages or the wall of water.

We would also like you to read our Rules. We do expect you to abide by these rules just as we expect our players to do so. In the case of inappropriate behaviour, I would ask players and participants to ignore the offending post or report it straight to Kiwi (AIM potatowhirl, or PM spudjuice here on LJ), and it will be deleted ASAP.

Also, since I predict we'll get the question, you may allow your characters to keep their powers at your own discretion. Please be sensible with them, okay? :)

And Finally...

If you have questions, or plan on participating and would like to discuss threads or details with our players, feel free to leave a comment here. You may provide your AIM name if you wish.
