Aravis and Seely had returned from Archenland the day prior, but she'd spent the night in his room rather than venture back into her own just yet.
Thus it was for the first time in weeks (or simply one week, Fandom time) that Aravis, followed closely by her dog, poked her head into her room. "I smell chocolate. Hello, Karal."
"Ardeeb was too little to walk when I left home but I bet he would have done, too," Aravis said, grinning. "Did you know Seely's brother stabbed him one time?"
They were talking about siblings. It seemed like a logical conversation leap to Aravis.
"Stabbing is very bad," he said seriously. "Trenor never stabbed me, but he tripped me so I fell into the manure pile once." With a little sigh of content, Karal lay down on his side and pulled his feet up, resting his head on Aravis' calf. "Does Seely miss his brother?" He laughed suddenly. "His brother didn't miss him!"
She giggled. "I think he does. I miss mine. Both of them," she sighed, absently stroking his hair and not taking much notice. "Rishti used to blame me for things which I don't think is very nice at all but I think it's what brothers do."
"I didn't miss my family until I came here," he said, folding his hands under his chin. "I hardly thought of them. He used to follow me everywhere from when he could walk. It was my job to look after him and keep him safe." He laughed softly. "It made it easy to blame him for things, but no one ever believed me."
Karal patted her hand reassuringly, glancing up at her. "They're wrong. And you're not there. You can blame me for things if it would make you feel better."
Karal pondered it as well. For quite some time, until he'd almost lost track of what they were talking about. "I could do something really terrible! And then they'd believe you!"
