Karal was hungry. He never did have breakfast after his ride this morning, and he'd been so engrossed in reading, lunch had passed him by without him noticing ( Read more... )

Aravis and Seely had returned from Archenland the day prior, but she'd spent the night in his room rather than venture back into her own just yet.

Thus it was for the first time in weeks (or simply one week, Fandom time) that Aravis, followed closely by her dog, poked her head into her room. "I smell chocolate. Hello, Karal."

"Aravis!" Karal was warm, Karal was happy, and Karal was feeling exceedingly mellow.

He was also incredibly glad to see his room mate, so he put his book aside and stood up, walking over to give her a hug, the wisdom of doing so not really a concern at the moment. "I missed you."

Aravis was a bit taken aback, considering she didn't think it had been that long at all, here. So she sort of awkwardly hugged him back. "I...missed you too, Karal. Did you have a good Christmas?"

Karal did stop hugging her. Eventually. "Glory, I don't know," he replied. "I didn't really have a Christmas, because it's not something I celebrate, but the time off was quite nice. Too quiet, especially with you gone, but I gave Gavin a spinny hat, so it was good, I think. Did you and Seely enjoy your trip home? And would you like a brownie? They're very nice."

He beamed down at Ata. "And hello, Ata. were you a good dog for Aravis?"

Andrew had taken a short nap after he and Neil got back back from Wintergreen. Now he was wide awake and in search of someone to bug. Karal seemed like a good choice.

He poked his head around the door and said, "Hey, buddy!"

It was Andrew! Karal beamed at him and hopped up to greet him. "You're back from your trip! Come in and have a brownie, and you can meet Aravis." He reached out to catch his elbow, just in case he was going to try and leave, and tugged gently. "Please? Just don't be scared of her," he added in a whisper. "She's really very nice."

He let Karal guide him into the room. "Why would I be scared?" Andrew whispered back. "Can she, um, hurt me?"

"She could, but she won't, I promise," he said reassuringly, letting go of him now that he was staying. Karal wanted him to stay. "Did you have a good time while you were away?" Of course, he immediately blushed, remembering who Andrew had gone away with. "Umm, I mean, was the trip good?"

With Inara gone and the fifth floor quiet, Gavin wandered down to Karal's room and announced himself.

"Sun's Ray!" Well, announced Karal.

"Little Ray!" Aravis called in greeting, as she had been told to.

"Oh kriff," Gavin said and rolled his eyes. "He told you that?"

"May I see your spinny hat?" she asked, giggling.

Not having seen people in a week, John wandered the halls to say hi to his friends. Smelling chocolate emanating from Karal's room, he went inside.

"Something certainly smells good!"

"Brownies!" Karal grinned at John. "You can have some, because you're John and your hair might be unhappy if I didn't share."

John raised an eyebrow. "While I'd definitely like a brownie, I can't say I think my hair has feelings about it." He moved to get himself a brownie before he had to be glarey about his hair.

"Are you sure?" Karal gave it a thoughtful, puzzled, uncertain look.

And kept looking at it, attention wandering away from what he'd been going to say. It was fascinating.

Seely was hungry, and he could smell chocolate. It was even better luck that the smell was coming from Aravis and Karal's room. "Hey."

Aravis practically leapt off her bed, giggling and going over to give him a kiss hello. "Hi!"

"Hey you," Seely grinned and bent to return the kiss. "Someone's in a good mood."

"We have brownies! Which I did not know about because you never told me they existed, but they are like tiny chocolate cakes, and they're very good," she told him happily.
