My newfound church family held a meditation service last night to help us help each other deal with the results of our recent election. It did help. Candles always help. Tears help. Just knowing you are not alone helps.

Your son is amazing. You must be very proud.

Condemning people for having a belief/value system that goes counter to yours is non-productive (and crazy-making). You can't change people's minds anyway. What matters is the rule of law to prevent people from discriminating against other people, from causing harm to other people. That's why the Supreme Court matters so much.

The problem with Trump isn't just his racism and sexism, although that's bad enough, it's that some people feel his elevation to the presidency has legitimized these attitudes and made it acceptable to act on them somehow. We have to fight against that, of course.

You know how we aren't supposed to call undocumented workers illegal immigrants or illegals? It's dehumanizing. I think that's what the minister is saying about Trump supporters.

This is the part of parenting I find the most interesting--the child becoming an adult. We are learning so much about each other right now. I am still working on his tendency to misogyny (although I think most teenage boys go through a period where they resent what they see as the power of girls over their lives ( ... )
