really neat-o stuff

I just downloaded a cd of the entire Vorkosigan saga (except for Memory).  And I managed to both a) burn a cd and b) copy them all to my little Sony e-reader!!

At least I think the cd copied. Haven't been able to open it as of yet. Linux moves in mysterious ways....

Note: this download was free at Baen Books. It's considered a teaser I guess. And I ( Read more... )

I love free books! I have yet to purchase anything for me ereader, and I'm quite happy that way. So, in what order should I read this Vorkosigan thing? The titles on the Baen page aren't matching up with the titles I'm looking at on Fantastic Fiction.

I knew that Baen offered a lot of free books; my dad bought a hardcover once that came with a CD with like a gazillion. Whoever's running that joint understands SF fans, and that whole concept that if you let someone try something out, they're more likely to buy it later as a known quantity.

Project Gutenberg is so my jam, though. I'm slowly but surely working my way through the Sherlock Holmes canon at work, when we're slow and I can read while out on the desk. It's very nice.

HAHAHA I went to copy the folder of all the files I just downloaded from your link into my ebooks folder, went to SF, then saw that I already had a Bujold folder. And already had all of these books.

I have no idea when or where they all came from. I have no memory of downloading them, but I obviously must have at some point.

LOOOOOOOOOOL that's cool though, now at least I know Baen's okay with it.

One of the first things I re-read on the reader was Holmes. There was a two volume omnibus edition of the Holmes story at our local library that I had checked out for a year. Renew, renew, and renew again.

I have been using the Wiki entry for internal chronological order, as recommended by the author. I have read bits at beginning, middle, and end already, so I'm looking forward to reading them in 'proper' order now! But start with Shards of Honor/Barrayar (Cordelia's Honor). They're first except for an unavailable short story and a prequel that just sets up the universe. Besides I *bounce* whenever I think of Cordelia!
