Ohhhh beautiful! The snow covered ground & woods and the blue sky is the finest combination! And your house looks very nice with a big tree nearby, seems to be very “Czech”! :)
Thank you. Yes, that was really a very beautiful day! This tree is actually Czech "national tree" - a linden (tilia). It is more than 100 years old. However I prefer it green:-)
Well, at the moment another thaw-it is raining and totally unpleasant. Of course all that white beauty will be gone tomorrow... Our roof is steep enough to be safe when we have too much snow:-)
No snow anymore, just water everywhere. This shrine is not typical because of its roof and a "Byzantine" copula. it is made of wooden clapboards, there is a small bell which tolls at noon and at 6 pm. Morning toll was cancelled because no one wants to be disturbed by it (6 am.):-) Our village is tiny and there is no church, so in 1800 this shrine was built (Baroque style). There used to be a carved wooden statue of St.John of Nepomuk but it was stolen in 60´s of the last century - almost all such small village shrines lost their saints to illegal thefts and smuggling, mostly to Germany and Austria. Now there is only a simple shelf with some religious decorations but not very nice.
Thank you for the explanation! Yeah, I also would not want to be distured at 6 AM LOL
So when the bell rings you have to pray? Or just to tell the time? Do (or did in the past) people meet there to pray together, or is it just for one person alone?
I think we have similar things in Bavaria in the mountains, you walk by and suddenly there is someting in the middle of nowhere. They are catholic but in Saxony people are evangelic and I don't think I have seen anything like this around here.
Well, originall the bell really was a reminder for daily prayers. Although there are several people of the Roman Catholic confession here, most of us are not (either ateists or some private belief, so we take it like a time piece. We Czechs have always been rebels and "heretics" *wink*
