unf history boys.

Okay. Just got back from seeing the production of The History Boys that's currently on at the West Yorkshire Playhouse - and oh, it's good. The Drummer Hodge scene was so good (with Hector frantically trying to balance the composure of a teacher with his own devastation), and the ending just broke my heart: "Someone dies at school, and you remember ( Read more... )

Oh my word, right?! I absolutely love HB. It's the play that turned me on to plays, to WWI-era poetry, to Alan Bennett... Aiiiii it's so good.

I adooooooooooooooore it. It was one of my coursework texts for English Lit last year - and oh, it was fabulous. *loves*

And Alan Bennett is such a sweetie. :D He leaves near here, and so sometimes my family sees him wandering around town, which is quite awesome. (I want to go hug him, except that would be creepy.)

Have you read/seen any of the Talking Heads monologues, btw? They're just masterpieces. ♥

I need more HB icons...

I would absolutely love to study it in a classroom setting. I just came across the play on my own, then found the movie, then traveled 300 miles to DC to see a production. Unf.

Oh my WORD REALLY?!?!?! *fangirls*

No I have not! I will have to check them out.

Oh, I have loads! Feel free to borrow (=

Three hundred miles to see a production? Wow. Now that's dedication. :D (I think it's because Bennett lives round here that we get fairly frequent productions - which is awesome, and because we live pretty much in the middle of the UK, there's not going to be 300 miles to travel!)

Really. :D ♥

They're so good! And so heartbreaking, too - some of them, at least. Which is really like THB, I guess - because it's so hilariously funny, but also so devastatingly sad. :( Poor Posner. ♥

Ooh this reminds me, need to book tickets for the one at my local theatre!

Glad it was so great xD I think Scripps is a really key character in that, if you don't get a really good person playing him, I think the whole production feels a little off. Says me, who's only seen the film and one production :/ I didn't like the Scripps I saw, but I did enjoy the play being performed as a play.

I only have Dakin-related HB icons, btw, so I'm afraid they'll have to do :D

I'm tempted to book tickets to see this one again. It's on until the beginning of March (I think), so I figure I'm justified in going again? Right? *waaaaaants* Ahem.

Says me, who's only seen the film and one production :/
:D Does that matter? No, I don't think so. (Because your opinions are all fabulously fabulous, I will have you know.) But it's true - Scripps doesn't have that much influence on the plot, per se, but he's everywhere, and what with all the asides and addresses to the audience... Idk. In short: I agree with you. (And this Scripps did make me happy.)

I have ONE HB icon. And it's slashy. :D ♥

Totally justified. Doooooo iiiiiit xD

Aww *hugs tight* He is very important and as you say, we've been spoiled by Jamie Parker's film!Scripps, who is THE BEST EVER!

LOL it's hard not to be slashy in the HB fandom, isn't it? *grins*

Ooo. *ponders* *checks purse* We will see...

I AGREE. Why is he so awesome?? *flaily* Also? I'm fairly sure that my grandparents went to see the original HB cast at the National back in 2004 - and I am so jeeeeeeeeeeeealous.

Most definitely. Goddamn those silly, pretty males. :D ♥♥

That's fine. Apparently there's a thing whereby students can turn up on the night and steal any extra tickets they might have - I'll look it up and we could wander along on thursday, on the off-chance?

Also, why is this writing so pale? It makes it very difficult to see what I'm saying. *not impressed*

Ooooh, kinky! I agree. (But would you need a student card? I don't have one... School lunchcard? Idk. I guess I could scrape up ~£20 from somewhere. Hmmm... ANYWAY.)

Do look it up, bb. Then I will have to wear sensible shoes. Hmm. Ah well.

This writing isn't so pale. It's blackish-grey to me. Maybe it's your laptop? Silly Weez. *pats on the head* ♥

We'll all be broke and with bad backs but... Jamie P is playing Prince Hal in Henry IV Parts 1 and 2, from 6 June to 2 October and 3 July to 3 October respectively. Passes out with joy!

At The Globe - which is great on the one hand but will give those of us who are old a really, really bad back!

And if you do make it down for a performance, my office is just round the corner from the theatre, and I'd be more than happy to stand you some lunch or a bite before the theatre. Your fics are amazing and it'd be good to return the love!
