One more reason that music journalism is total bullshit:

From Pitchfork's review of Weezer's "Make Believe": "[...] it calls into question whether The Blue Album was really that great, or whether it just stood out as a rare beacon of guitar pop in a grunge-obsessed era."

From Chartattack.com's review of Weezer's "Make Believe": "Comparing their ( Read more... )

See, I never actually listened to the Blue Album in its entirety until, uh, this past December, and I really liked it. Yes, I like it because it's great guitar pop -- but I was listening to a lot of other guitar pop at the time. So contextualize all you want, reviewers, but the Blue Album is pretty solid on its own merits. Its this solidity that must have made it stand out so much from the grunge.

Pinkerton is the most insidiously catchy album I've heard in a long, long time.

i never liked weezer. i never have. their entire "sound" is pointless/irrelevant. their songs are catchy for about .5 seconds but are pretty witless.

that being said, they ARE catchy. if they're on the radio, i can handle it. i don't, however, permit them being played purposely in my presence under any circumstances.

Pitchfork: Never afraid to tell us how they really feel... except when how they really feel is off the bandwagon, or totally uncool.

yeah. pitchfork actually does people a favour by giving them a 0.0 instead of a 3.something.

oh my god, how can these people on your friends list not like the blue album? they're fucking insane. one of my top 10 albums, hands down. and its in most of my friends' top 10s too, whether they like very good music or not.

I /love/ the Blue Album; it's so fun! And it's awesome when you're in a room full of people and either Say it Ain't So or Undone or My Name is Jonas comes on, everyone just starts singing at the top of their lungs--or, at least, that's why I do with my group of friends.
