2010...a new decade?

Is it just me that doesn't get it? A decade is supposed to be a period of TEN years, right? Then why, oh why, is everyone saying that 2010 is the start of a NEW decade? Shouldn't this be the END of the current decade? Call me crazy, but that seems to make more sense to me... Shouldn't 2011 be the start of a new decade (2011 - 2021)? The same thing ( Read more... )

Unless they started at year zero... (2000-2009) :-P

Yeah, you're both right. Things changed in the 20th century, mostly because of the Y2K bug scare. In the late 1890's, people considered 1901 the start of the next century, but almost everyone considered 2000 to be the start of the current century.
