"Commander," says the voice on the comm line, and both the cautiousness and the thread of resolve running through it are plain. "Do you have a moment, sir?"

He's here now. That doesn't mean he wasn't there a moment ago; time generally stops in the bar. But he's here now. Sariel's not acknowledging any tiny flutter of relief she might feel. He sounds--

He sounds within normal parameters. But that doesn't mean much, and Sariel knows it.

Data's instrument is lowered. He is listening attentively to her voice, and his mind is already running through the possibilities of what this could be about. He has a guess-- not a specific one, but Milliways seems the most likely reason that this particular Ensign would have contacted this particular senior officer.

He also takes note of the caution in her tone. He can tell that this is something important.

"Yes, Ensign," he replies. "What is it?"

He's right. This particular ensign is in a rather different department from that particular senior officer, for one thing.

"I've just had an--" she's chosen her next word carefully. "--experience that I believe you should know about, sir."
