Agreed. I don't know why people think that just because we happen to live here that we must enjoy (or fake that we enjoy) the weather that comes with it. I hate everything about winter and don't see why it's necessary to be quiet about that, and I'm certainly not going to be silent when I wake up to -30. It's extreme weather. It's not like it'd be expected to shut up and take a blizzard.

Nor should you have to! The whole point of social media is sharing aspects of your life with friends. Weather affects us daily, so it's totally fair game to post about it.

God, there are even mental conditions linked to this type of weather. Seasonal Affected Disorder anyone? Months and months of white, grey, cold, and little light can and does cause depression. I would encourage all of my friends to vent about that if it helps!

Don't you just love loathe the intersection where "self-centered" meets "holier-than-thou"?

This is a person you don't need anywhere near your life, I'm thinking.

As someone who lived in CA for 18 years and then decided to go to school in MN, I definitely sympathize with you; I've heard so many stupid questions and comments about MN weather from Californians. Pretty much all anyone ever says when I tell them I go to school in MN is "But it's so cold there! Why would you want to go to school there?" Like all I should base my decision of where to go to school on is the weather and not how good of a school it is or how great the Twin Cities are despite the weather (I've definitely come to really love the Twin Cities over the past few years). And I mean, as you pointed out, there are negative aspects of living anywhere; nowhere is perfect, so saying you should move because of the weather isn't perfect in MN is ridiculous because it's not as if there'd be nothing to complain about anywhere else. Also, now that I've been in MN for several years, when I'm in CA I'm not allowed to ever complain about it being cold (according to my family/friends here) because I should be used to super cold weather ( ... )

Gahhhh, that's frustrating. :( I love the Twin Cities too. They are a great area, but Minnesota winters are a trip sometimes.

I think it's time for a new decree.

Shelby's Weather Mandate:If you're shivering/sweating balls/drenched in rain/buried in snow/uncomfortable with a temperature shift, you are allowed to say so, regardless of geographic location and its corresponding climate.

There is an exception to every rule, and I will happily accept this as the ONLY ONE for my mandate. :)

I only complain about it being cold in LA to make fun of myself and my low tolerance for any temperature below 65. I hope you know that. :( And that's rich of your "friend" to tell you to quit bitching about the cold in Minnesota. Minnesota is fucking cold.

I did not know that, but honestly, I don't have a problem with it. If you're cold, you're cold. If you feel so inclined, say so.

Oh, and yes, it is very, very cold. Like, freeze-your-face-off cold. To add insult to injury, it white-out snowed during rush hour at -5.
