I love talking to people, because it forces me to articulate things that have only been vague feelings previously. In an Instant Mail conversation last night, we ended up talking about actors and characters and what draws us to each ( Read more... )

I can definitely get behind what you're saying here. I'm as big a Krycek fan as anyone, but the actor on XF who strikes as the most interesting person is actually Bill Davis. You could share a meal and a bottle of wine with him and have some good conversation. Most of the time, it's the character and not the actor I groove on. My big exception is Ewan McGregor, who throws himself so totally into these vastly different roles that he disappears into his characters, and it's his energy and his ability to act in this way that appeal to me. There must be an interesting person behind this talent. Other exceptions are actors whom I love for their work and not their looks at all, such as John Hurt.

And as for Tom Cruise--totally not human, if you ask me. Scary.

Bill Davis' Cancer Man was great. An aura full of depths and secrets. And so weirdly urbane as well. I fine McGregor appealing too.

Well, I have always liked Tom Cruise, but I see what you mean. He always seems to be "acting". Always. I really enjoy RD Jr. though. He is such a versatile actor. He can do anything. I hate the show Ally McBeal but I watched it the whole time he was on! He is amazing. Now if he could just clean up and stay clean....he has such potential.

I enjoy RD Jr. too. Now that I think about it, maybe I wasn't precise enough. He comes across as gated and locked, yet somehow something about that quality in him makes you want to unlock him and get him to reveal more. A lot of of blank wall/locked door actors don't have that; they're just blank and null.

Ditto on McBeal and your hopes that he can stay clean.

Err, somewhat off the mark, but I was just thinking how much more appealing Sorbo looks in a long-sleeved turtleneck in "Andromeda" than half-nude in "Hercules"... He looks slimmer and neater and somehow deadlier.

I'm going to chime in and agree. You called the appeal of him in a turtleneck for me.
