musesfool said this, and yeah. I'm not leaving LJ and I hope all of LJ doesn't leave, because I still haven't warmed to Twitter, Tumblr, Imzy, or DW, though at least DW doesn't mess with my neuroatypical eyes and brain quite as badly as it used to. (To their credit, people at DW wanted to help, but unfortunately their help could only consist of advising ( Read more... )

I'm not leaving, either. The other platforms just don't work as well, thought DW is the closest. Sadly there just aren't as many people over there.

I tried Dreamwidth when it first came out but couldn't warm to it even before I realized that I wasn't retaining a lot of what I was reading on their version of the Friends page. Other people may have different reasons than I do.

I agree totally with the 'closing the barn door long after the horse has bolted' in fact the horse has probably died of old age by now. If you post stuff on the internet your stuff isn't secure or private. Seems like people have forgotten that.

I use Dreamwidth when I remember (with cross-posting to LJ) but haven't friended that many people there. The current incarnation of LJ doesn't seem so friendly as it used to even though I haven't converted to the 'improved' version except when LJ has switched me for my own good and then I've been able to switch back. My account is old enough to have avoided the adverts as far as I can tell.

If it is finacially wobbly I'd better look into backing up to Dreamwidth. Maybe 2017 isn't going to be any better than 2016 after all.

I couldn't figure out how to crosspost in 2009 and as far as I know DW never developed anything as handy to post with as Semagic, which makes LJ posting a breeze, so I gave up on sending anything to DW. I follow some communities that are DW-only but aside from that nah.

There's an "improved" version? *g*

January 20 brings President Trump, so I have no expectations of anything good in 2017. Hopefully, fewer celebrities who mean something to me will die in the new year.

My compadre! The recent Dreamwidth newsletter says that they've gotten about 100,000 new accounts in the last 5-7 days (and that they don't have anyone who knows the language to answer support requests from Russian and Ukranian users).

Oh. Also, LJ forced me to go wonky even though I never did change from S1. It was called '*whistling, loads up LJ* WHAT THE WHAT WHY IS EVERYTHING CENTERED NOW?!?' And so forth. I kinda distrust it, tbh. But DW hasn't seemed to be an acceptable alternate for me, nor any of the others you mentioned.

For whatever reason, my settings on S1 have enabled me to avoid all kinds of stupid things over the years. *g*
