The characters knowing what they're doing is a big plus for me. The learning curve for people on this show was way too long for my tastes. But it looks like that'll be over very soon.
It's been steadily improving for awhile now. But then I also liked it when Nick was struggling to keep his grimm life and cop life separate. The only thing that made that part hard for me to deal with is that Nick is such a bad liar.
I've been reading superhero comics for over 30 years, so I find the lying to protect a secret identity overdone, especially if I don't feel it's done or handled well. In Grimm I didn't, especially since he's such a bad liar. That's funny a few times but quickly becomes cringe-worthy for me.

For me it helps that they've moved past Monster of the Week to show mythology/conspiracy and the characters actually knowing what they're doing now.
